Temperature indication in dis

The temperature reading in the dis on my friends 1.4 a2 reads -42. Obviously it’s not that cold yet. Anyone know what sensors send this reading and where are they located. Thanks.

Thanks. I thought that was it. How can I change it as I think it’s wired into the loom. Does it play any part in engine management?

Looking at the picture linked by spike there clearly is a connector at the end of the loom at the top, just unclip and replace sensor.
No idea about the your management question but on a diesel the Webasto will only cut in at low temperature so something is managing on outside temperature, but if it goes as far as modifying fuel injection etc no idea.

Andy

Edit. Thinking about it a bit more when engine is absolutely cold the ECU will know the outside temperature from the coolant sensor?
