The Cobalt dream machine.

New discs and pads.

Finally got around to changing them as they were well overdue, before we got the car, so that's another job ticked off from the list of things to do.This gave a good opportunity to have a good look in there and all looks in excellent shape, even the wishbones as these seam to suffer as i've read on the forum. I'll most likely give it all a good clean in there and protection once i get the callipers painted black, and get some new backplates. The callipers still has a fair bit of black paint on them, i'm guessing this is the original colour? Is there much of a handling advantage between the pressed steel and forged alloy wishbones?

Brembo discs - not cheap but worth it and far better than what Audi supply nowadays.

These discs came painted with a dark grey heat resistant paint which i'm not keen on, does anyone know if they should be light grey and maybe have a link for the correct paint? Cheers Mark. :)

looking good there , one thing though i always put copper ease on all contact surfaces of brake pads and calipers as it saves any squeeling later down the road... cant really see from your pics if youv used anything, i thought the calipers where a silverish colour new like a zinc coating and id imagine the pressed steel bottom arms was audi cost cutting as remember reading they sold A2s at a loss hense why the early A2s had much more goodies standard

Cheers, yes i've used some Copper ease but only where the carriers meets the metal contact lug of the pad, can just be seen in the pic and on the hub so wheels and discs don't stick. None on the back of pads as there's an anti squeal pad there. That's interesting so the paint could be a zinc coating? Doesn't surprise me that Audi went down the penny pinching route and gave later cars the pressed wishbone.:( I'm thinking of getting the forged arms but as the car handles so very well already i'm wondering if it's worth the expense and whether there will be an improvement?

Having covered at least 500 miles in the last week the brembo discs and pads are nicely bedded in now. A couple of irresistible shots had to be taken yesterday around noon in Wiltshire. The mist from the tropical weather, remnants of the Hurricane off the States last week, persisted all day making the scenery look beautifully surreal. At this point we had already passed the better scenery but needed to push on. Must get back there when the weather's better to check it out. By the end of the week the "Cobalt dream machine" will have covered over a 1,000 miles.:D

Cobalt dream machine in search of the Red Arrows.

This time totally different weather from the last couple of photos. On our way to Bournemouth this Saturday from our base in Swanage and this scene greated us, so had to turn around come back park up and try and make something of this as we were shocked to see so many boats out in the bay.

Just before the above pick, took these below on the ferry from Studland to sandbanks. You can see the Red Arrows in the last pic. Thursdays viewing of the Air festival was so good we had to do it all again.

We've just had our colour diss installed yesterday by Tom,and just as our last meeting together this was an even more enjoyable one as we were able to indulge in our love of HiFi for a short while with a little listen. As ever Toms work is of the highest standard and i'm extremely happy with the installation. I hope your reading this Tom as i've discovered 2 pleasant surprises as a consequence of this colour diss upgrade. At first i thought i was seeing things and as Halloween has only just passed thought it rather spooky. I noticed movement in the passenger door mirror. Later on i tried to see if it would do it again, and sure enough when the revers gear is engaged the passenger door mirror drops down to assist in parking. As soon as you disengage the mirror goes back to it's original position. Very nice i thought and unless i missed something didn't realise this was part pf the package.

The other thing i noticed which was another clever touch is when you activate Cruise Control it functions as normal but when you want to accelerate, the car will accelerate but will just return to the previously selected setting if you drop your speed which is nice and especially helpful on the Motorway. To anyone who might be contemplating one of these it's well worth it and i couldn't be happier. Many thanks Tom, was a pleasure to meet again and look forward to meeting you again asap for bits we've mentioned. :)

It's great to hear that the Colour DIS is becoming a new "Must Have" - the mirror dipping feature was talked about during the big thread, but is probably lost amongst all the other great features, but this was probably one of the biggest reasons for me wishing to purchase one for BB. I really miss the feature from my A5 days, as I find it especially essential if you have alloy wheels that you want to keep in good condition as you can see where you're going when reverse parking :)

Just goes to show i very often skim threads as i'm usually juggling a million things at once. That's my excuse anyway and i'm sticking to it. :D Have you had yours done yet? I think it's brilliant and to be perfectly honest we're extremely lucky to have Tom on the forum not withstanding his superb skill, but he's also a great fellow human being. I'm also immersed in the Audi 80 B4 and the C4 S6 world and Tom would be inundated with work if he wanted, but sadly it's his love for all things A2 that gets his attention. So glad i found this forum and some of the really superb people on it. :)

Pictures Mark or it didn't happen... :p

Pleased for you mate and good to see your project taking great shape. One day I would like to upgrade myself; though cambelt, brakes and suspension are ahead of that luxury touch for me sadly.

Lol, :p right you are Sir,..........pics after dinner and Oliver to bed.:p I'm also pleased to let you know i've located a genuine twist false floor boot trim sides, from window to floor, no cutting out and so will look perfect. I'm in the same boat as you, we need a cambelt just now, only on years not mileage. Will get pics later Darren.
