The quest for Low Mileage A2's

I was reading the post on the high and super-high mileage A2's (what great little cars!) and was wondering how many low or super-low mileage cars are still out there.

This post was prompted by mine clocking 50,000 miles today.

11 years old so an average of 4,500 per year, well below average.

I know mine won't be the lowest, not by a long way.

How many miles have you done, as there can't be too many less than me, are there?

There is a petrol one on ebay at the moment with 18000 on the clock.

Only last week my daughter managed to purchase a very nice 90 Tdi with 32000m and a full audi history.
In fact almost identical to snubnose Akoya without the Opensky.

They are about but most have been well used.

I recently became the very proud owner of a very original 46K, 2001, A2 1.4 SE in Silver, which belonged to my Mum's neighbour. I have known and converted this little car for over 10 years, but I nearly lost out to the local village garage, who have looked after it (very well), since it's only previous owner (also from the same village). Last weekend I managed to secure a deal with the lady owner and it's now taking pride of place on our drive. It's off to WheelBase in Surrey for a service tomorrow, and requires a starter motor, some simple electrical investigation, plus a little cosmetic bumper and fender paint work. However it looks fabulous inside and out and drives extremely well. It may not have the power and performance of my other cars, but I'm loving driving it! It will be used for the supermarket, school and weekend club runs. So don't expect the milage to increase much in the coming years. I've been looking for a low mileage A2 for a while without success, so think I've been very lucky. This little A2 is full of character and reminds me of other great classic small car designs from the past, but with much higher build quality and finish. I really looking forward to sharing some photos and experiences in the coming weeks and months. Loving the A2OC and Forum!

Welcome! Nice to read the story of how you came to own your A2. Sounds like you have a lovely car there and silver is one of the best colours in my opinion. Hope you enjoy this friendly forum.

Well, I'll claim "low" to be a relative term.....

Ours was 15 years old last week and has 83k on the clock. 25k have been added in the last couple of years, but before that mileage was between 3 and 4K per year.

Aimed at no one in particular, can I remind everyone that the mileage on a diesel, regrettably not petrol, can be independently verified with VCDS. Hope no one gets a shock.

Has anyone ever moaned at Ross-Tech about mileage check not working on petrol?

Andy

Yes have VCDS. The car I posted has further documented mileage in official registers (mileage is recorded every MOT and available online); furthermore the servicebook has in total 13 servicestamps from the garage, all with date and mileage basically every second year.

Sorry, my last post was not doubting your mileage, but as I said just a general post. - Andy

A bazautos in Bicester is apparently preparing a 33k fsi for sale at £2k - worth a google I would have thought if you know your way round an FSI engine

Wife has owned a Colour Storm FSI for last 13 years & it has done just under 16,000 miles (some years it has done under 1,000 miles) . Still drives like a nearly new car; only problems we have had with it are the NOX sensor has had to be replaced twice & the also green temp sensor for temp gauge.

WOW! Please please PLEASE check your "pipe of death" (and cambelt probably) ... they decay and even though it's hardly been used it is probably just as perished as any other 13 year old car :)

Hi, thanks, along with changing NOX/temp gauge sensors, I have done all the routine servicing over the years my self (including several timing belt changes). Up to now the pipe at rear of engine has been okay, but I am aware of it & already have a new one in my A2 spares box in garage.
Although not a direct fit, I used an NTK NOX sensor sold for VW Golf 1.6 FSI by modifying the cable on the last new NOX sensor that was fitted & it has worked for the last year. The VW NOX sensor (NTK part number NZA04-V1) is far cheaper than Audi one(I managed to get a brand new one off ebay for an offer of £100) ; it has same manufacturer/wires/colours/connector but cable is shorter so part of cable from old/faulty sensor has to be joined to it. I did find a company in Germany that sold universal six wire NOX sensors for petrol VAG engines, where you attach connector from old NOX sensor to bare wires on universal one, however, the price was more or less the same as the VW one at around £130.
