The rattling - from inside car - under load

The noise only came along after I had a service (belt changed)... Mike (skipton) drove the car and said it was prob my exhaust manifold loose but when I had it looked at they found it was okay... and I think it may have got worse.

It is really annoying i've been noting down problems people said it maybe in your old topics (esp. fiona's). It used to be nice an quiet inside now its like a tractor.

I mainly hear the noise when going up a hill or when the car is under load.

I've got these notes:

Loose heatshield
Loose manifold (again look at)
Loose/need new exhaust mounting brakets
Internal spring in recirc valve

It sounds like exhaust or pipe that is rattling... you can't hear it when you press the gas when standing still or leave the engine running (just little jingle - from the engine - when you listen to it) and it sounds louder inside the cabin than outside (I doubt you can hear outside) - noise seems to come from where my legs are/ directly infront.

Any ideas that I can add to my list or solution so I can get it sorted out

I recently fixed the rattle in our A2; I thought it was from under the dash (fortunately I had not started to remove the glovebox); I left the car running and whilst cleaning the windscreen I put my hand on the bonnet and the rattle stopped; so I took the bonnet off and no rattle but the locating positions where loose and it was theses that where rattling; took them out wedged a piece of card under and refitted, I have no rattle, its a quick fix.

Hope its something a simple.

This is one of the things I hate the most about A2. It rattles like a mo-fo and it seems to be coming somwhere from inside the dash.. I suspected the hood (never liked the way they fixed it.. why, o why no hinges?!) - and this confirms my suspicion ;) I'll try your fix ASAP!

Thanx!

A BIG THANK YOU!!!!

THE RATTLE HAS FINALLY GONE,WHOA 1 DOWN 1 TO GO!

Incidentally I was looking at the following thread -
http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread...1737#post51737 a few days ago and thought I’d take Shazlee’s advise so, last night I placed my finger tips on the corner of the bonnet and tapped/pushed away on the passenger side which happened to be the culprit.

What I could hear is the exact sound I was hearing inside of the car like a marble rolling/rattling (I couldn’t believe that this sound was emanating from the outside as I thought it was inside the cabin/dash) so, in excitement I popped the bonnet off.
As I’m not sure how to get under the clip holder I just placed a thin card from the Kellogg’s box and folded It and tucked it into the gap where it was loose and guess what... Voila. went for a spin and the sound was gone.

Worked for me hope it works for others thanks Shazlee! After 2 years of ownership the sound is Goneeeeeeee…

*Have taken a Pic will upload later.
Sorry i dragged on….

I had the windscreen replaced and ever since the bonnet has rattled just like yours. If you press down on the corners it goes. The fitter took out the plastic panel which the bonnet catches are attached too, so it seems he's not fitted back exactly as it was. Is there a way of adjusting the fitting to tighten up the catches?

Regards,

Keith

Keith, the bonnet catches are not usually removed when the windscreen is replaced. What does need to come off though is the plastic scuttle cover that runs across the car at the base of the windscreen. This cover clips into a sprung groove secured to the windscreen.

If the fitter removed your bonnet catches, chances are that they're not aligned correctly and that the plastic spacers that sit within them are not properly installed. May also be an idea to check how well the wiper arms are fitted to their respective spindles.

Let us know what you find.
