Thermostat Failure, Appalling Audi Service

Hi

I had my thermostat replaced bought the part from Audi Huddersfield
and had it fitted by VW independent who has done quite alot of work
for me in the past. The thermostat was working for fine for around a week and 300 miles till it failed again and the temp was below 70C nearly all the time unless i was parked up.

i Spoke to Audi who said they will look into it but said they have never had a thermostat that has failed.

and one of the guys called Manjit said i would be liable for the diagnosis which would cost $105 pounds..for some reason i got my comp on American setting and cant change and he said even if it was the thermostat i would still have to pay. I called Audi again and spoke to another girl who advised if it is the thermostat i wouldn't have to pay.

well today they called me and said it took them 1.5 hours to diagnose they said the thermostat had failed but because the plastic luggets had snapped
when fitting and this caused it to fail and that i would be charged $191
for diagnosis. now am really pissed off and i know that Audi have fobbed me off, spoke to Manjit and he was extremely rude said he didnt want to waste
time discussing this any further. All this for a part that costs $12

any info guys what i can do as a way forward?

Had a new thermostat fitted myself a couple of weeks ago. It's located in a difficult position to reach and my independant broke the clips. Also needed some new coolant pipes as there was a leak. That and the second service, aircon topping up with gas, a drop link? and the throttle body given a good clean came to nearly £700. They ordered up another new part and stood it themselves.

Who is Manjit? Is he an Audi guy or the independant?

Manjit is the Audi guy at Huddersfield, they are wanting me to pay
$191 for diagnosing that it is the thermostat but failed because fitted incorrectly and plastic lugs broke.

all the way through the guy was very arrogant and unhelpful

Try trading standards. They are very good. The very mention of them investigating their dealership will cost them custom and they know it.If it was Huddersfield that fitted the duff stat in the first place then the failure is down to them.;)
Start menu-control panel -keyboard will show up your American keyboard layout.English one should be there as well,if not just add English keyboard then delete American.Simple.:)

the part was purchased from audi, but was fitted by IVS independent VW specialist. I told them at the start the thermostat was faulty they have turned round and said it was due to fitting. Thing is the guy who did the work is a good mechanic used to work for Richard Alexander VW

im very dissapointed with Audi, especially the individual who i have dealt with.

i've tried that but just wont allow me to change from American to English thanks

Huddersfield Audi

Ahhh my mate Manjit nothing that a heavy club wouldn't fix! Sorry he's the gentleman I had a run in with 2 weeks ago when Huddersfield Audi failed my A2 on its MOT because the wheel rims are a little bent, took it to another testing station and it passed... They were stunned that it had failed. I'm complaining to VOSA about Huddersfield Audi's sharp practice. I also complained to the Service manager for what it was worth. Decided to never use them again found a workshop in Mossley who can service Audi's, they're just down the road from Skipton1...

That wouldn't be MDR Autos would it? Mark is a star there and for mundane stuff and general work, he cannot be beaten.

Cheers,

Mike

Temperature woes !!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi I have been looking at the historical threads and can see lots of issues on coolant temperature.

Any advice please my problem is on a long run yesterday at steady 60mph I noticed the temp gauge move from 90 to 100. I stopped checked water all ok , fan running. Some sign of puking from the expansion tank and the lid was loose.

Only way I could get temp down was run climate in heating at 28C, this gave me 90 deg C.

Took it to my local independant where of course it sat at 90 like a good un he suggested change filler cap.

Done this , puking seems to have stopped but from rest it gets to 90 in about 5 to 10 mins then creeps upto 100 and holds or drifts back to 95 / 98 ish

Lastly had cambelt done about 8 weeks ago because water pump failed and then "red warning light came on" I parked car up and left it, now I am wondering if I have a warped head problem, but why show up now , 3000 miles later and after 2 months?

Steve
