Thread on sound insulation?

I think someone messed with my factory sound-deadening between the engine and the cabin before I bought my A2. I hear my petrol engine *a lot* (for comparison, like a Golf II). Removing the dash and getting it looked at would be prohibitively expensive at a dealer, right?

'Right' I'd guess a dealer would charge at least £1000 labour to remove the dash etc and I'm not even sure if everything behind the dash could be stripped out fully to replace the moulded sound deadening panel.
I'd also doubt a previous owner would go to the trouble of messing with the exixting material.
Have you ridden in another similar spec A2 for comparison?

Cheers Spike

Well, no. I'm the sole A2 petrol in the portuguese Audi forum. I was just expecting an A2 to be quieter. It gets tiring on the motorway.

My fear is that the recall made for my car, which involved putting a protection between the A/C and the starter motor, dislodged something deep inside. I still have to check if that operation has been done, but I think it is.

But maybe the sound is escaping through my front bumper, that has a crack underneath and an opening before the protection plate under the engine. I don't know how much of an effect that would have.

[edit] After the last time it came back from the dealer, it's a lot quieter. Problem solved! [/edit]
