Timing belt change, anything else?

Pump has been ok on ones I have done
Personal thoughts are the chain stretching and tensioner reaches limit of travel leading to failure
Plastic guide surfaces on tensioner get worn
+
Unknowns with service history

In my case the chain stretch was minimal and all the sprockets had miles left. My problem was the plastic guide surfaces were breaking up. If I had not replaced, as a minimum, the tensioner I’m sure my chain would no longer have been sufficiently tensioned and would have failed. I replaced the tensioner, sprockets and chain. Did the full job.
I do however know of a member who replaced just the plastic guide surfaces without removing the chain etc. Heavy job made a little easier but nothing like as comprehensive.

For a timing belt kit I'm looking at a few just dont know if the all important tensioner is included...

For instance this looks like it has the tensioner included but not 100% sure (never having seen one in my life!)

ATL timing belt kit

Anyone know of a full kit which includes the tensioner if above not suitable?

Yep that Gates kit includes the tensioner. I like the Gates stuff - oem quality.

Work on oil chain now complete, and timing belt done at same time.

Crankshaft oil seal, belt tensioner idler mounts fitted at same time.

Replacement intercooler air diverter also fitted at the same time as the old one looks like it had been hit from an accident before I bought the car.

Lastly got round to putting 250ml of 2t scoot semi synth oil into full tank of diesel.

Chain removed didn't look too bad but it's noticeable that the plastic on the bracket was wearing so the precaution of changing was a good idea.

Car feels like it's now got 20 or 30lbs foot of torque and 10 bhp extra, much smoother and noticeably more refined. I'm guessing the timing belt done last year wasnt done to standard so for sure I think I'm reaping the benefits of now having a properly fitted belt.

Thanks to Murray at mountblair garage for work completed.

Cool pictures!

May I ask what you paid for this; my ATL is due for exactly the same job soon?

Hi there in relation to labour that's really down to whom does the job.

It's around a full days labour.

In relation to parts the timing belt with tensioner was £86, and I managed to pickup the chain kit with sprockets for £125. Both via eBay.

I think the seal was £26 but that was an unexpected cost so fairly sure you could get this cheaper if you shop around.
