can anyone here help,

I have acquired new genuine timing belt and tensioner for my 1.4 tdi but have noticed there is a date of 2017 on the box. does anyone know if this is a shelf life date or end of life as I'm unsure whether to fit it now?
thanks in advance for any information
regards mark

Its a kind of "use by date", has it been stored in a box out of daylight? I wouldn't worry about it unless its been stored incorrectly. (damp, in direct sunlight)

don't know the history but still boxed and not showing any signs of cracking or perishing so think I will be ok using it

Yes, you should be fine.

They age quickly when under the bonnet and suffering from heat, cold and damp.

Kept in a dry box should be fine, but you can always go back to the parts department and get them to exchange it (but that is assuming that you bought it recently and from a decent parts store)
