Today I.....

So today

i has a couple of hours spare , and had a bit deep clean inside the car , this being Basil , which has racked up 192k miles
Basil has been parked up on the drive for a couple of weeks , much like his owner ...... so I have cleaned the outside and engine bay last week , following a massive service and checking of key components, I still got 2 drop links to do ,and a CV outer boot

So out with the hover , wet vac and cleaning products...

End results was well worth the effort

I have the same as you. Did I read correctly that you have to map out the EGR from the ECU? Mine has already had a little *cough* tweak from Paul but not the delete, I’m assuming it would need to be tweaked again?
Edit - have you noticed any performance difference, Barry?

Not yet, but to be absolutely honest, I've only started it to shuffle it around the workshop :D

The silly thing is, I gently pottered it up for the MOT and that's the only A2 TDI journey I've ever done, so annoyingly I won't feel any benefit, real or perceived anyway. Even so, the thought of all that muck staying away from the inlet makes it well worth doing anyway, quite aside from any performance aspect.

Double rear storage box! Glad I’m not the only one obsessed with symmetry ?

I was very lucky to get them as a set , from @Clackers whom was happy to let them go , was going to have one in each car , but the OCD won the day
I was also surprised yesterday to find they have a carrying handle !
They look pretty damned good if I do say so myself...
They would be lost in mine, its lovely to see them in such a fine example of a car...nice work pal.

When do you want mine dropping off for the same treatment? :p

In a strange way , I get loads of satisfaction from the process of turning a really dirty , unloved car into something shiny , and in full working which “I “ have done to Basil , along with a couple of other cars , and motor bikes , lawn mowers etc over the years , those mostly get moved on once the job is done , but Basil , and a Ducati M750 monster will remain while I have my marbles ....

my wife thinks I am nuts , but she knows where I am , what I am doing and the past history of this before we met .
going to sort out the “Project Shed “ A2 special edition later in the week , my employer is advising”12-16 weeks “ before my services will be required , however the whole of the workforce is being treated fairy at this time , nobody’s lost their job , and we getting wages paid to 80% Covid 19 starting , so must not grumble!

Today I joined the A2OC and as there is plenty of time I thought I'd inquire about some of the problems of my 1 owner (slightly battered) A2.

Two main things, and I'm sure there are threads for them:
First off, milky residue that I think is the lacquer coming up around the aluminium inserts around the centre cap.
Secondly, a problem with the open sky system where the second tier doesn't open under the steam of the motor that operates it. I know it does open because when the windscreen was changed the chap lifted up the second tier with the glass suction grips. It closed fine but wouldn't reopen, been like this since factory.

Any ideas appreciated

Welcome!

Depending on how keen you are, the SE hub-caps can be cheered up by removing the lacquer and polishing the metal underneath. You then have the option of merely keeping them polished or hitting them with some new lacquer.

As for the sunroof: oh my work that's a can of worms :D. There is a member on here: @Kleynie who offers a variety of repair options but they do involve you getting the car and him together, obviously not practical at the moment.

The OSS system does seem to be the one consistent failure point on an A2. Just be careful to not leave yourself in the position of having a roof stuck open with an impending thunderstorm approaching ;).

Again, welcome to the club: it's a pretty friendly place and the technical know-how on here is fab.
