Today I.....

Today (well yesterday afternoon actually) I was a very lucky boy and got to go out for a tootle in this, a brand new Ferrari SF90 Spider 😎

Not too dissimilar from the 75bhp A2 TDI I was happily driving in the morning 😜 this 986bhp beast was absolutely unreal.

My son's described it as Rita (the Alton Towers ride) on steroids! 0-62mph in 2.5 seconds, 0-124mph in 7 seconds and yes I experienced it 😱

Following a not great year health wise this was a real treat courtesy of a kind hearted good friend of mine that was incredibly special and very appreciated.

With just 150 miles on the clock and a price tag of around £600k (£15k for just one carbon fibre wheel should it get damaged and need replacing might I add) I don't think I will be trading in the A2 anytime soon, in fact never! 😂👍

Hi Tom,

Yes I'm on the mend now thank you.

It really was an unbelievable experience that I have never known anything like that, more like as I would imagine being in a fighter jet than a car, carbon fibre everywhere and the sheer power was just outrageous!

Makes you realise what technology can do nowadays and quite amazing to think that when I was younger and had a 1.9 205 GTI with 130bhp that I could barely pull away in without the front wheels spinning, that a road car could ever have the best part of 1000 horsepower! 👍

A fantastic thing to experience and it sounds like just what you needed.

I’ll never forget the first time I drove a Ferrari, a humble F430 with literally half the bhp of the thing you drove. None the less, it’s an experience that will always stay with me. There is just something ‘different’ about the way Maranello’s finest deliver their power. I’ve been lucky enough to drive a few Ferraris since and none have disappointed. The one you drove looks a very serious bit of kit.

That said, you can’t tax it for £35 a year or get 60mpg, so when your friend offered to trade, I’m sure you didn’t hesitate in declining!

But, is it ULEZ compliant? I'll bet it is...
Mac.

Fitted most of the bits I’ve been acquiring and in some instances recolouring to my 1.2.

It has never been my aim to make this car concourse, it couldn’t be further from it as it’s my daily driver.

That said, I hope will reach 500,000 miles or more over the next 10 years but these little cosmetic bits will make the car a nicer place to be.

Afternoon Erling,

Looking fabulous in the 1.2 cockpit Sir. These little enhancements really are worth it, great work. You should have zoomed out a bit to show off those stunning alcantara seats you have, very special addition.

A few months ago I borrowed one of your ideas and attacked the instrument cluster hood with Volico Twist paint in Project OEM, a very nice contrasting item.

Kind regards,

Tom

@Erlingtheyounger @2work I was just wondering if that fairly light colour of the instrument cap would be a problem being reflected in the windscreen?
Hello Joakim,

Absolutely no issue with reflecting on the windscreen in Project OEM Sir. Looks quite good as well for a 20 minutes job usibg a full can of Volico. Sure Erling would have swapped back should it be an issue in his 1.2.

Kind regards,

Tom

It’s an idea I pinched from @A2Steve as he’d done it on Pepper which a friend of mine owned briefly before it found its way to @Hef

Just when it was all going so well. Today I was to finish re-installing the refurbished rear axle. The axle went on fine, new bolts etc. New shocks and springs went in fine. Handbrake cables refitted fine. Then it came to connecting the new flex pipes to the existing body pipework. Didn’t enjoy it last time I did it and kept putting it off. Bit of cling film over the reservoir. And off we go. 7mm spanner on the off side pipe. Came off fine, old flexi off offer up new flexi to a bit of jiggling on on goes the connector.
Home stretch I thought.
I noticed a bit of corrosion under the plastic cover extending about 3inches from the nut. So removed the plastic covering, removed the corrosion, gave it a good squirt of releasing fluid and went for a cup of tea.
(Having magnetic based inspection lamps is a bit of problem on the A2/A8!)
Back to the flex pipe connector. Not a lot of room to work but needs must.
Spanner on and turn. Very tight. A bit of backwards and fowards it will be fine I told myself. You probably know whats coming.
pipe and nut “welded together”
It was obvious that further undoing would result in a fractured pipe.
Bu**ar.
So will have to make up new pipe and make a join to the existing upstream.
As I say it was all going so well.

Oh dear, such good progress. Are you referring to the connections at part no. 5 below - i.e. pipes 1 &2 ?

Just noticed that 7zap has revamped the interface again. Worse still, they no longer display the full part numbers:

Only authorized users with premium tariff can decode VIN and find parts applicability

I could not find the tariff. What are the alternative?
