Today I.....

...recovered from replacing the infamous G263 climate sensor. Encouraged by some really helpful guides here I managed to doo it in a mere 3 hours! It really is a case of having to remove and loosen “stuff” to be able to see what’s what and then as access is so poor doing the swap by feel. Anyway sensor replaced codes wiped and not returned so first job ticked off the list.

For anyone in the Lancaster area there is a Red Bull type soap box racing going on in Williamson Park from mid morning through to the afternoon today.

Yesterday I added Red reflective tape to sections of all the doors and inner rear hatch after noticing that unlike the A4 the A2 does not have lights to alert other road users when a door is open/ Ing.
With the darker days approaching and all four doors in constant use better be safe than sorry.
Just checked out the reflective tape in the dark with and without the flash. Here are the results.

Well yesterday, we were all out in the car as a family and the kids (rather than I) spotted an A2 in the distance.

"Look dad, one of your car friends" :)

Other than on my driveway, there are not a lot of A2's in our area anymore (can't imagine why :p); it's such a great design and still stands out from the crowd.

I need to sort out new rear brake pipes for my axle restore. I see many on the forum recommend Kunifer. Can anyone recommend a company within 1 hrs drive of Trowbridge Wiltshire (we're 20 mins south of Bath) that can supply and competently make these using the old as a pattern? As a safety item I prefer not to do them myself.

Thanks

Well actually yesterday…

Fitted my new leather seats. I have had these for about 2 weeks now but things got a bit delayed as wifey managed to break 5 ribs in a horse related incident on the day they were delivered ( another good reason to choose an A2, I haven’t broken anything since I got mine 18 months ago! )

A big shout out to Ami ( @Ami ) for providing the rendezvous point, Colin ( @V666col ) for first rate delivery services and @mrbroons for the excellent video guide on seats removal. Pretty chuffed, very comfortable.

I’m very lucky, these are heated and have electric lumbar, I think I will have to leave sorting that out till next year.

Lovely seats Justin, hope your wife is fully recovered.

Evening J,

They’re a lovely set of seats and can confirm that the heating and lumbar work just fine Sir. Glad they found a nice new home. I might even have a full factory heated seat and lumbar loom available that you could possibly retrofit yourself. Drop me a message.

Hope the recovery of your good lady is quick.

Kind regards,

Tom

I was hoping to draw a line under the poor servicing I received from a local garage. But they said that it was a real nightmare and some bits are missing. They will take photos to show what is wrong but don't feel that they can move it forward. Dang!
Previous garage had the car on ramps for 4 days as they couldn't replace the new lower wishbones I supplied. It didn't handle well but it was improved when another garage tightened up some of suspension when replacing the shocks. Now it is more comfortable but still creaking and groaning.
So disappointed that the initial garage has made such a Horlicks of it. The thought of taking it back there for them to correct the repairs goes against every instinct in my body.
But at least the latest garage (local independent Audi specialist) are telling me what is wrong and how bad it is. They said that the initial garage had been hammering it in rather than using the correct tools. Feeling very let down. It's not rocket science. :-(

Just realised that I paid by Credit Card and so I may be able to do a Section 75 claim if it gets awkward. But still need to get the repair resolved.

Yes assuming the value was greater than £100
You will have a battle though as the independent garage will need to prepare a statement that lays 100% blame on the first garage for the notches job/damage done etc and that is very hard to achieve
I fear you will be chalking this up to experience and never using the first garage again

Ah I see that I wasn't clear. The independent garage was quite shocked at how bad the first local garage had been. So he took lots of photos to show me what was wrong and to take to the first garage. The first garage is the one I'm after. He was amazed that he seemed to have clubbed everything with a mallet, rather than using correct tools.

Today I, permanently installed my Ultragauge OBDII

I really miss having MPH and MPG available on a constant basis, and as I only have basic DIS, this was not available.
Of course, I would love to have a colour DIS as installed by the expert @timmus however I just cannot stretch to that cost (even though it is such an excellent solution).

So, for £80 plus another £10 for a leather steering wheel cover (for 'adjustments' to fit the Ultragauge - so I can put back the original later), I get up to 45 gauges, most of which I will bypass.
Constant speed (for those pesky cameras and zones) and MPG (also to encourage me to behave), along with coolant temp and EGR valve etc etc lets me keep an eye on all aspects.

Depending on the seat and steering height, sometimes the DIS is partially blocked, however I can certainly see if it is not showing the external temp. and we all know how loud it is when it has something to say!

Temp has not gone over 89 degrees for many, many days, which I am taking as a good thing!

Today there was an outstanding job to do.
Rear bumper off and apply sealant around both vents to stop water entering into the boot area, noticed after the OSS has been fixed which had a leak into the similar area.
Decided to give everything a bit of a clean while at it.
For an all aluminium car the rear is a surprise two very heavy blocks with a metal bar between them.
Must weight 20-30 Kg I presume for handling / braking.
