Today I.....

Today i drove for 6 hours and 270 miles on a round trip to view an A2 that was for sale. On arrival it took less than 1minute to decide it had been a wasted journey ! !
The car had been described as being excellent condition only requiring 2 areas of paintwork that needed attention. I was assured by the seller that the rest of the bodywork was ok and scratch free. Every panel including both bumpers required attention to paintwork they were covered in scratches or damage. ! !
The car was filthy on the outside and even worse in the interior, rubbish on the the floor and the leather seats all marked.
I must remember to ask " is the car washed and clean or am i going to find it dirty, damaged and covered in scratches ? ""
This is the second time this has happened recently, third time lucky i hope

This is the trouble with A2 adverts, A2's always seem to photo well. I think with the age of the A2 it's going to get harder to find excellent examples. Hopefully something will turn up on the forum and then you should hopefully get an honest description.

.. I got the news that I passed my language test, so I can now apply for citizenship. I also pretty much finalized the remaining details for Icetrack, so that's looking very good indeed.

Congratulations. I don't think Finnish is an easy language unless you were allowed to do it in Swedish!

Today I .......

Took the wife's TDi 90 to Russell at "The Paint Doctor (Staines)" (he Painted hers and mine and does all of the bodywork jobs)

She had water inn the battery compartment (We noticed that something was wrong when the inside of the front screen was frosting up.

So I knew it was the rear vents behind the back bumper.

He has sealed the edges now and so that should keep it nice and dry in there now (he did mine a couple of years ago and it has been bone dry since)

He is just installing a "wet transfer" tank and so if anyone needs any plastic / metal parts done and you are near enough to Staines, let me know. Apparently it can do wheels too, it always surprises me at how complex shapes seem to come out fine.

Today I replaced the battery! I am more than familiar with the earth strap problem but starting has been getting progressively worse over the cold period and I knew the earth was good as is the alternator. I eliminated the starter motor on the basis that all electrics dipped on turnover indicating an inability of the battery to maintain voltage on heavy load. In fact the voltage dropped to around 4v on turnover!

Two independant garages tested the battery and declared it was duff so bit the bullet and bought a new battery. So whilst it is always worth checking the earth strap sometimes the battery is the cause!

Starting now is enthusiastic, long may that continue.

Cluster has its LEDs replaced, should be back with me on Friday. Bits are now being found for track, need to find a shedload of camera gear... meeting the first roadtrippers Saturday.

Now if the weather would just be really, seriously wintery, I would be very, very happy....

I took the bold step and sold my A2 TDI90 after having owned it for 6years. So many mods I did and now all gone. So many hours and effort I put into the car and this forum. Feels weird now.

It went to a old man(73years) who will care for it til his end he joked and I got top money for it so I am happy tho dont get me wrong. The thing is that money will only go into a savings account.

I did buy a bmw cabrio from 2010 last year April and couldnt get my mind to sell the A2 and kept it. I had both rides simultanously and now towards the end I just found it being stupidity to have two cars and Im only one person. Love/Loved that car.

I can go on forever rambling pros n cons believe me.
One day I regret selling the other day no issues. A car to just sit is never good. Every other week I took it for a spin and each time breaks was locked from standing still. I think towards the end it just gave me grey hairs and a waste having it parked & using so seldom. Love my carbio so mich more and even tho I hand OSS on my A2 it aint the same as taking the roof down.

Any hoot, i just wanted to share my thoughts and feelings as I at the same time feel like im trespassing this forum now that I've sold it.

It is a pity tho, car was well stocked with options and lot of parts I added on to it that i invested money n time to mount. Damn tho, fun car. Probably one of my better buys and cars I have as I had it for almost 6 years. I dont usually have cars no longer than 24monthd before it itches to try someting new. The only two other cars I have owned that long is my Peugeot 205 GTI(which I sold 3years ago for damn good money as they are worth a lot these days) plus my first car ever which was a Audi S2 saloon.

For now I still own a IH Scout II from 1976 which I have had for 17years n still going strong and Peugeot 205 T16 Dimma which I bought a little before I sold my 205 GTI.

At one point in life I thought I would have the A2 for life as it is pretty much rustfree. Keep it for my children when they grow up but no, that changed now that I sold it.

Damn I must sound schizofrenic rambling bout this little car...

Tell me again why I sold it; yeh, good money and it was taking space and not using a lot.
fyi, i sold it for 6.100€ with 230.000km and it was a 2005 model with green pearlcolor, removable hook, rearsensor, OSS MkII, BOSE, leather - cream beige color, winterpackage, nets in the back of the seats, electric windows, electric adjustable back on front seats, cruise control, etc etc, way more option to tell but dont wanna bore you.

Guys, thank you all for a good fun 6years of discussion on A2's. I regret never getting to the mod of 6th gear. It was gonna be my next thing, i was already looking to source a gearbox off a Passat.

Who knows. Might buy one again in the future.

Thanks ya all.

Wish you all great fun and the best with your A2's.

Sincerely Alan.

I'm intrigued, what is this, please?

David

Not really sure what it is called, like a bump on the lower part of the seat which is electrical adjusted.

Quick google translate gives me lumbar support as answer.

Hi, Joe,
What he was doing there?
I see you have rear windows tinted. I have a question: Are those windows tinted to match rear window or they all are tinted more then oem rear window? Maybe you have a picture where I could see the view better?:) thanks

I think you will find that they are not tinted. They are the removable blinds you can buy (around £80)

they are are better than tinting because you can remove them whenever you want and you can also leave them in the car even with the windows open.

Today I met up with Timmus, inspiring work, what a humble and lovely guy.

Joe

Many thanks for your kind words, Joe. It's been a pleasure meeting you and working on your A2. No doubt we'll be in touch as you've got big plans for your car. :)

What he was doing there?

I added DIS, cruise control, alcantara Sport seats with lumbar support and twin rear fog lights. Plenty more options to come at a later date.

It looks like it was a cold day for you both... brr. Is that Tom doing an impression of a car thief who has stolen all your interior parts. :)

Oh my, it was cold! Easily the coldest retrofit I've ever done. When I arrived at 9:30am, it was -2°C and at the warmest time of the day it was a tropical +4°C. I'm sure this seems quite warm to our Scandinavian members, though.

Cheers,

Tom
