Today I.....

Ordered a new battery as the original is struggling now it’s colder and I have only driven the car on weekends for the last month or so, rookie error when I removed it to put it on charge and I shut the boot, doh. That manual release came in handy. Note I have no build sticker in the battery tray, any ideas where else it can be? I need to check my paint code.
Unfortunately a lot of them just peel off over time. Probably over zealous cleaning.

You could try the myaudi app for android. This will give you a full breakdown of the codes.

Wow these guys are fast:

Ordered at 3pm yesterday by noon today it was fitted and the old one was at the tip, where the only 3 cars were my A2, an S3 and then an A4 S-line Avant, all parked in a nice line, 2,3&4. Too wet to take a pic.
I fooled the kids, saying I had bought them a puppy for Christmas after they quizzed me about the box warning label!
Merry Christmas!

Today I changed another starter motor..............im getting good at this.............45 mins not including the undertray...that took nearly flippin 20 mins.
Petrol or Diesel?
Are they complete failure scenarios?
Which brand and supplier do you use? Mine (TDi) makes a funny EEYY OORR type noise sometimes after starting(starts fine thou)
Cheers
Howey

Today I..........shampoo’d my car seats.

I’ve had the car for 7 weeks now and being 16 years old (26.5k miles) I suspect they’ve never been cleaned. The car is immaculate and the seats looked clean anyway (timmus would concur), I’m bit of a clean freak so wanted to do this.

What has surprised me is how much dirt I’ve a managed to lift out and now the seats look amazing!

Tell us your shampoo secrets!

Tell us your shampoo secrets!
I bought some Autoglym interior shampoo, a known and trusted brand in my books, read the instructions and away I went. Did you know Autoglym have an app (insert in the box saying so) which gives you how to YouTube clips on various thinks from milky headlights to...... you guessed it shampooing seats.

Instructions state:
1. Spray on the shampoo onto the seat.
2. Use a clean damp sponge to agitate making the shampoo froth very slightly, rinsing frequently.
3. Take a synthetic drying cloth to the seat to take out any moisture. I didn’t have one of these so I’ve used a towel, the amount of dirt that came off on the towel was somewhat more than I expected.

Instructions state do one panel at a time on the seat which I did and they’ve come up trumps.

When they are completely dry in the next day or so I’ll be completely happy in the knowledge I’m sat on really clean seats.

On a separate note, I also cleaned the steering wheel too, I used a clean genuine chamois leather with water and it comes up perfectly and the Matt look with which it came out of the box. I hate shiny steering wheel leather from other peoples grubby mitts.

TDI 75s howey.
Long story short, I had a good one of my written off A2 and I was also getting the squeal on one of my other A2s so the other week I decided to put the spare one on the squealer, I then split open the squealer and cleaned it up, I then put that one on my other TDI 75 (today) and that is now starting on the button with no squeal.
I will now take that apart and have another spare.

So whats making em squeal?

When the solonoid punches the gear cog forward when the ignition is turned it spins the main fly wheel so the engine starts, but the gear cog is slow to return to its starting point so makes the noise.

Copper slip is good but I used marine grade grease.
I also used fine wet and dry to clean up the copper contact where the bushes make contact.

Hi,
I have looked for some guide on how to grease the starter motor but I have not found it. How difficult is it to disassemble the starter motor once it is out of the car?

Thank you!
