Today I.....

I have a license to drive a coach, it's amazing the amount of people who pull out on you, cut in in front of you, try to overtake while your waiting a temporary lights ......

I have LEDs in the sidelights and an auto headlight switch with the light sensitivity turned up so they are effectively driving lights unless I’m the brightest summer sunshine. I have not noticed any particular problems with people pulling across / in front of me because they haven’t seen me.

I have had the occasional incident but I’m pretty sure the offender has calculated (badly) and chosen to take the risk regardless.

Can you elaborate on what's involved? Have also seen indicators added to the fogs, very swish!!
Timmus is your man, if you want someone to do this for you, however in the spirit of the forum and people making their A2s better, this helpful video shows you what is involved.
The car is really setup already, and just needs a single connection.

I do find the fogs are a little brighter than I would want, but perhaps I just need to put lower rated bulbs in there (as I never use them as actual fog lights).

Cheers

Matt

Changed a couple of bent valves from an eBay head. New stem seals and a valve seat polish.

Hopefully this will cure the misfire...

Felt the webasto heat at -4 deg, what a joy a working webasto is, love the jet noise it makes. Fits in with the fiddly but luxury feel of A2 design.

Braved the cold weather and checked Chad over ready for the mot in a weeks time. There’s not much left I haven’t replaced in the year I’ve had it……gearbox, clutch, OSS, rear axle replaced, brakes, pipes, and off side front strut, drop links, strut top, but didn’t do the near side. both struts were a bit oily but this one is really bad now, so got on with it.
as with the other side I replaced the dust shield and used stainless bolts etc, and gave the hub and metal bits a quick paint. mr mot man should be happy. It flew through last year with all its iffy bits, so this year Im hoping to get a gold star lol

Did lots of little A2 related jobs. On the 1.2 I fitted the new Philips Racingvision bulbs, fitted the re coloured handbrake grip, fitted the replacement front door seal (thanks @A2Steve), finally fitted the permanent side dash vents (thanks @Proghound for a very long loan of the ‘clipless ones’) and diagnosed the none working cigarette/12v port (blown fuse caused by a dodgy charger).

Tomorrow I need to see if the same issue is what’s caused Tonka’s to cease to function and to fit both of them with the auto-dimming mirrors gathering dust in the garage.

Are the RVs an upgrade from standard bulbs Erling?

I think they are an essential safety upgrade. They made me banish all thoughts of (now illegal anyway) LED or HID conversions

Not sure. One bulb went (fitted pre me) and was replaced short term with a Lucas bulb and I then replaced both yesterday. I have the RV ones in Tonka, though an earlier revision, and know how good they are 👍

The only downside to the Phillips Racing Vision bulbs is the lifespan as they only last for approximately 200 hours of use. This might be worth the additional cost and replacement time though as the vision and potential increased safety is unquestionable 👍

I tend to get more use than that from them - they typically last around 12-18 months for me doing anything up to 19k miles per year.

My only “secret” is wearing nitrile gloves when handling and fitting them to avoid any trace of skin oil transfer to the glass, which I’m told shortens their life because it causes hot spots.

today i changed the noisy growly front bearing.

removal was easy enough with a big breaker bar but refitting was a bit of a pig; it would not go in straight. 5 attempts later (and some gentle tapping with a hammer) i have a fitted bearing and no more noise!

i did have to sacrifice the abs sensor as it was fused in place and would not budge so new one is on order to get rid of my disco dashboard lights!

for those non-mechanically minded members, im very much a novice with rudimentary tools at hand and it's very much achievable.

massive thank you to @datsundrew for the loan of the removal tool. massive brownie points for your generosity 🤘🏻

cheers

Nice one drew, just a bearing puller tool to remove and a hammer to pop back in! Make it sound easy

Brilliant! Welded to original base plate?
yes. cut off the orginal base and welded to the new. two holes line up perfectly and you use the third from the original plate. The still-available VW ones are just about the same height shorter than than the addition of the original foot plate - so welding it on brings back up to the right height (+/- 2mm).
