Today I.....

Today I changed the air filter and fuel filter on my 75 Tdi. Running real nice and smooth after these filters have been swapped with fresh clean ones. Pulls very keenly tho it is only just run in at 262k miles 😆 hi, what's your routine maintenance ; .

Today I sorted out the claim on my car that was rear ended a few weeks ago - the damage is very minor but as expected it was enough to write off the vehicle as a CAT N, photos below.

Fortunately I didn't lose control of the situation or hand the car over to insurance and it's still fine to drive, no leaks etc. (done over 2k miles since the collision!). Payout of nearly £1700 and I keep the car. Still rather not have had the experience but it means I'm still in with a shot of joining the 200k club before the New Year 🤞🏻

Special shout out to Barry @Rusty911 for the advice and David @devans who I will be getting back in touch with to sort out the replacement bumper

Our garden landscapers were to blame as they pulled into our lay-by in their tipper.

New lens on its way courtesy of Andy @Clackers - I’ve already been told that a bodyshop with all-positive reviews on Google will handle the repairs - but I do wish people would just take care - it’s not long since I had that bumper painted!

Really sorry to see this, such a shame when you take care of your car as you obviously do.

It's not the bumper, wheel arch or the tail light that's the problem as they are all easily removed but it's a real shame it's caught the quarter panel as there's no real break in that when it's painted and I personally hate when anything is masked off and not removed as it's never the same

Hopefully the repairer will be top notch as you say but I would make sure that everything is removed that can be including the arch before painting, even if you have to do it yourself.

Just a thought would it not be better to use the painters you used previously as you know the paint will match exactly?

Good luck 👍

Not A2 related, but we are leasing an electric MINI - had it 1 week, done 400km when this happened ; arrogant git in a Tossla deliberately smashed his rear door into the 1/4 panel of our car & when the police arrived, denied all knowledge of the event & told the that anything I said was a lie !!

Just WHAT is wrong with people's minds nowadays !!!!

If it was my A2 it would have been a write off !!

Today the A2 almost wouldn't start due to little use over the last week and little sunlight for the dedicated PV panel to charge the battery.

I don't think the garage did the battery any good earlier when they completely flattened the battery when trying to restart the A2 after changing the fuel filter. So today I bought plugged in my old battery charger but it smelled a bit so I've purchased this more modern one:

Cost £32.50 inc p&p. I know it's not a Ctek but it's still a so called "intelligent charger" and it's a fraction of the cost ;) Einhell is a German company but I bet the charger is made in China!

New cambelt, new clutch and service too, so all good to go 😀

Amazing how modern these cars look for 22yrs+
Yes, Audi had a great design team back then. A2, TT, and the other A series. All went south with the new frontal thing, and, for me, it's never come back, R8/10 an honourable exception.
Mac.

Tha ks to @Ami for sending me a hubi have the easy side of the suspension changed with just a few bits needing some attention.
I should probably have replaced the disks while they were off but it'll give me something else to keep me busy hopefully on a warmer day.

… removed my drivers side lock again, reflowed the solder joints, and added the special cornflake box packing to the micro switch.

Now it knows it’s open, closed, locked or unlocked.

Took the chance to swap in the first of the back door cards as well.

Hope you used leaded solder, lead free is why they need reflowing in the first place
Lead free solder is devils work

Oh, don't get me started on lead free solder. I drive Rover 800's too, and the fusebox and door mounted window switches are prone to needing a reflow. I have become quite good at it having done them for several people. It also helps I have a reasonably large collection of different solder grades from my Dad that are almost pre-historic.

Nice work I need to learn the solder reflow operation, I have replaced the microswitch with a £4.20 ebay replacement but still need to test it!
