Having filled in the claim last night, my insurers have already responded that they're treating it as a total loss, before I've even sent them any photos. They'll doubtless way undervalue it and I'll have to go after his insurers to recover its real value.
She's a tin-top, which is why this has surprised me so much. I run around in van-mode nearly all of the time with polythene over the boot floor, because we do they supermarket waste food run for the local community fridge fairly often, but I very rarely have a second passenger. I'll have to investigate further soon: with the events of yesterday I haven't had any time so far except to sponge out what water was there.

First, at my partner Lynette's house in Chesham, my lovely Volvo C70 convertible was most likely written off by a runaway DPD Sprinter van, which rolled back down the hill while the driver was out making a delivery. The Volvo was pushed sideways into her Yaris, so it has damage on every panel both sides, with a huge mess where the driver's door was. The Yaris has a load more minor cuts & grazes to add to its collection but is luckily still perfectly useable now that I've pulled out the front and rear wings. Thank goodness, no-one was injured. We had been about to load up the Volvo to take her daughter back to Uni in Derby: if I'd been checking the tyre pressures beforehand as I usually do, I shudder to think what the situation might be right now
Eventually we ended up taking the Yaris to my house in Leighton Buzzard and picking up my Crystal TDI75 for the rest of the journey to Derby. While fitting a rear seat to it for the second passenger, I noticed some mould on the boot floor carpet ... and a look underneath revealed a battery tray with about 2" of water in the bottom And this despite @timmus and I having put sealant around the rear vents when we installed the PDC rear bumper last Autumn! I've now sponged out the water as far as possible, I just hope my Diversity unit and particularly the BOSE sub are OK ...
That was the longest I've ever owned a car - just shy of 7 years - and I had another one the same model before it. However I (still!) do have too many cars for one person and, very nice though it was, I'd been thinking of passing it on.Sorry to hear this Ian...i know how much you loved the Volvo.
2 x 10mm holes in the underside corners will drain the water in the spoiler. Jus beware a torrent running down the drill, especially if its mains powered!@Proghound
Can you rule out leakage past the rear light clusters and a non distorted tailgate that fully contacts the seal?
Spoiler full of water and now leaking through the glass?
Other possibility is the plastic sheet is causing a green house effect and condensing the water out of the air
Thank you Graham, the lights and hatch seal are areas that I can check. The only one I know the answer to is the spoiler, I drilled the holes at the low endpoints years ago. I understand the reasoning about the plastic sheeting but doubt that size of its effect: the boot carpet is dry except for dampness on the flap over the battery compartment where the mould was. This hasn't been the first winter I've been running around in this configuration, and it was dry in there when we did the bumper and finally sealed the vents (something I'd been meaning to do for ages!) last autumn.@Proghound

It’s possible that a sealant for bathrooms won’t last, I’ve had it fail on our garage windows between the UPVC and the blockwork. Meanwhile I'm wondering if the sealant we used (silicone, suitable for bathrooms etc.) has given up or shrunk, and taken the original vent seals with it.
If you put talc around the rear hatch seal it should highlight where a leak is, if that's where it's getting in.I think that's where I'll be going with this for now, it's going to be a while before I can get the bumper off again to have a look.

It’s easier getting the bumper off with @timmus, @A2Steve, @Clackers or one of our other experts but even I can do it (much slower though!).

Managed to apply just the right amount of light coats to match the finish in the interior painted body panels. No heavy colour coats or lacquer was applied.
So can anyone guess the next upgrade for Project EUD which already has an armrest?
