...almost lost my rag after having to use dirty, smelly, late public transport! How about this for a crap journey home: finish work at 21:00; back home at 23:55...

Would have been half an hour earlier if there were no delays.

No wonder most people have cars. Greenies should be made to work these hours and use public transport so they can see for themselves how crap it really is!

Had the fuel warning beep for the first time since visiting Timmus at the weekend. Now I don't jump out of my skin when it goes off! :)

Can that noise be changed? Scares the life out of me when it comes on. I once had a Renaultsport Megane, and the day I picked it up I booted it down a sliproad and it came on, I thought I had broken it.

I've just had DIS retro fitted and it's the first time that the fuel warning has come on but turning the volume down was on Timmus's list of jobs so he's worked his magic on it somehow.

The standard (and ridiculously) loud beep was driving both me and the wife bonkers - I'm glad to see the back of it!

That's interesting, I look forward to hearing mine when it comes on, as Tom retrofitted DIS to mine the other week. I assume the noise will be the same, but I've not seen it on the screen yet.

I think you might find that it is not the swapping to DIS that changes the sound I think it is just that you can quieten the beep with tape over it?

So unless you asked Tom to do that you may find that yours has not changed.
It is a small but pleasant change !!!

My fuel light comes on every 6 weeks or so, so it's not the end of the world. Noise from my front speakers would be appreciated more

I sanded and polished my headlights to remove the UV and stone chip damage.

I used grades 240, 400, 600, 800, 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500 & 3000 wet and dry. I finished them with a rotary polisher using Mezerna medium cut polish and then finishing polish.

They have been transformed and were only bothering me because the lights were not that good in the dark. I've replaced the bulbs and have now done this, so I hope to see an improvement.

I want to do this. Did you spray them with the clear laquer?

Tape where, Steve?

Today, I fitted another Rivnut where there was previously a heat shield stud. This time, on the centre tunnel near to the right hand rear wheel. :)

Edit: I clearly need to take more care with the primer! It's difficult when under the car! ;)

Regards,

Matt. :p

Today I didn't wash the car ready for Saltaire as it's pee'd it down all day - I'm usually OCD about these things but Mother Nature wasn't on my side :(

Today I looked outside and was utterly disappointed with the grim weather the rain clouds forced upon the Midlands. I did the only thing I could to brighten the day; fitted £16 eBay LED interior replacement bulbs. So much better than before.

Hello Matt

Funny, i was looking at the same problem today, I have 4-5 heat shield stud, which is broken or corroded away.
So very nice to see Your solution

The ones on separate brackets I am not so worried about, ( I have repaired one of these)
But the ones in the body panel (like Yours on the photo),

Do you know if there is space behind the panel or it is straight into the cabin carpet ?

And do You know if there is a wiring-loom on the backside of the panel behind any of the heat shield studs to be carefull not to drill into ?

Hi,

Good to hear you've benefitted from this fix. There's a bit more information about it here. :)

Once you drill through the floor, in the ones I've done so far, you're straight through to the carpet. This isn't a problem as such, as there is enough thickness of the carpets to hide the small bump left, and the Rivnut can be sealed sufficiently. Regarding the wiring, I'm fairly well versed with the A2's interior and I know where most major wiring routes run. The main affected routes are along the sides of the car. That said, if I'm not sure, I can either check inside the car or look through photographs on here. :p

Regards,

Matt.

Hi Matt,
Just received my rivnuts along with aluminium nuts and bolts - boy, ar'n't they expensive.

re painting. Does it need to be primed, after all the car is aluminium? I was thinking of maybe adding a clear lacquer spray.
