Hi

My TT is currently with my Audi dealer as the gear box has 'blown up'! It's 3 years old and no longer under warranty and I have been trying to look for an alternative solution for getting it fixed without having to spend £3K on it.

I have located a company who will recondition it for me but my dealers are refusing to take the gearbox out of the car for me unless I pay them to do all the work.

I'd be really grateful if anyone can recommend an Audi specialist in the North West who I can take the car to, to drop the gearbox out and replace it for me when it's fixed.

Many thanks

Clare

As it's only just out of warranty, you should expect some form of compensation or renumeration for the works. The gearbox is obviously faulty or not fit for purpose if it expires after only 3 years.

The question is, How long would you expect a gearbox to last in a modern car? Get onto trading standards or Consumer Direct (if it's in your area) & get some advice.

Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.
Was a Merlot Red 1.4SE petrol originally.
Now an Ebony Black 1.4SE petrol with Red Leather, CC, Symphony + all the previous options we had.

Welcome. Sorry to hear of the problems.

Have a read of the '£900 to fix central locking' thread a few below this on-again someone had an out-of-warranty repair and some advice was given on there.

Good luck!

Clare, I agree with runboy, there was a lot of good advice on that thread, I'm sure it will be helpful. I would be surprised if ANY workshop would remove your gearbox so you could take it elsewhere for repair, store it for the period of repair, then put it back. I'm sure that if you could do this then in the event of problems, you would be entering a minefield. Go for the Audi option after following all advice on the thread, particularly the help from Auto Express etc.

The re-conditioner can probably suggest someone who will remove/refit it if you don't use Audi to do it.

Hi Clare,
Try Awesome GTI Store, School Lane Performance Centre, Hollins Green, Warrington, WA3 6LJ. Tel: 0161 776 2029
www.awesome-gti.co.uk
The main man is Jim Cotton.

They are very well respected and renouned on the VW/Audi scene for producing some very special cars. They are enthusiasts and I'm sure they will have contacts who can rebuild your gearbox or alternatively source a reasonably priced replacement.

Good luck

Hi Clare
As an ex TT owner I sympathise with your gearbox problem, mine never really worked 100% despite dealers attempts to solve the appalling change. On a brighter note I know of a a spares supplier offering " Brand New " TT quattro gearboxes for £400 which would appear to be a bargain.

Good luck
