tyre pressure...

hey dudes...

the front tyres on our A2 1.6se FSI have always looked slightly under-inflated...

i went to the local BP and used their handy digital inflator thing...

it said pressure was 28 and i inflated up to 34psi on the front tires - 16inch rims...

they still look a little flat...

any thoughts on ignoring the psi level and just inflating them till they look right?

i know that doesn't sound smart but it annoys me that they look underinflated and i think the edges are wearing funny....

thanks,
gerard

If it makes you feel any better, I had people tell me my tyres were flat on my (ex) 1.4SE.

Always got them checked and the pressures were just fine. Must be the type of tyre (small sidewall maybe) which gives the appearence of low pressure?.

hi
better just lower the psi back to 28 psi since that is the correct pressures on the front and back tyres you don't need any blow outs or excess tyre tread wear.

I'm sure ~34psi is right for the model Gerard and I have - I inflated mine to around 34psi a fortnight ago as per the chart inside the filler cap. I'll check this later as you've got me worried...[:I]

Went and checked: 35psi front and 38psi rear is correct for a fully loaded A2 with 185/50 tyres.

Fully loaded also = high speed with one driver... if you do a lot of fast driving you need higher pressure too.

ok,

thanks guys...

i checked the chart on the filler cap as well...

the funny thing is that if i look on the actual tyre it says 50psi but that seems extreme...

i do like to think i drive fast so i'll bump 'em up to 35psi

The 50psi on the tyre-this must be max pressure only?.

It's one of those experiments you'd love to try on a track wearing a crash helmet!.
