hi. i have read through the definitive guide on tyres thread and am still a bit confused. i have 6J 16 H2 ET35 rims. I currently have 185 50 16 tyres of which i have had 2 punctures in the past 10 days. From reading the thread would i be right in saying that i can put 195 50 16 or 195 45 16 on this rim?
many thanks.

Hi Ray,

Why is it that you're looking to change tyre size? If you've got a few punctures but are otherwise happy with your car, why not just buy the same size as you've already got? I'm a big advocate of playing with wheel and tyre sizes, but you've got to know what you're trying to achieve in doing so...

Cheers,

Hi. It's the wifes car and she says about the ride comfort on her 5 mile commute every day. I am gonna need to change 2 other tyres soon and wanted more rubber for a comfier ride. Like i said i read through the guide and was left a bit confused. I don't want the expense of changing to 15 inch.
many thanks.

Changing to 15's shouldn't be an expense. Most 15" tyres are cheaper than 16's, 15" wheels are easy to find on fleabay and by the time you have sold the existing wheels you will break even.

If I had the 16" SE wheels, I'd almost certainly run 185/55/16. These tyres keep the contact patch the same as standard and are an ideal width for a 6J wheel. The extra rubber in the tyre wall will add to the comfort factor.

The alternative is that you buy some 15" wheels and sell your 16" wheels. Yes, there's a bit of effort involved, but as Adrian says, 15" tyres tend to be cheaper. I suppose it depends on how much you love the look of your existing alloys and how many more times you're likely to change tyres during your ownership of the car.
