Thanks in Advance for any advice or help with this
Ile start from the begining so you know where i am,
my A2 1.4 petrol did have some intermittent faults but fingers crossed they seem fixed so far as done over 100 miles with no beeping and flashing of all the warning lights,
My Fault Codes were;
ENGINE
17598 02 lamda
17604 vgk 02 senser
16684 missfire
16685 missfire
16686 missfire
16687 missfire
16688 missfire

symtoms were miss firing, hesitating when sitting at a constant speed , say 40, 50 or 60 even , the car would seem to lose power holding at these speeds but after a second or two it would clear and be ok ish , on cold mornings the miss firing seemed worse or possibly fuel injector problems, and every so often all the warning lights and beeping and sometimes when i reversed all the lights would go off aswell.
Armed with a can of carb cleaner and new gaskets for throtle body and egr valve and a set of spark plugs, firstly i disconected the battery , cleaned the throtle body and changed plugs and checked all hoses and wiring, i found a tiny hole where one at the back left hand side of the engine had been rubbing against a brake pipe , which i patched up with electrical tape for now till new one sourced , reconected the battery, turned ignition on waited 5 mins , ignition off , then started car and went for a test drive , seemed ok for about 5miles and then the same problem again,
next i removed the battery earth and checked earthing points in the footwells , they looked ok but removed them and cleaned up with 400wet n dry and refitted, on the n/s footwell there was also a small silver thingy and some more wiring plugs which i unclipped and checked, i then removed the n/s headlight , disconected the abs plug for accesss as earth under the pump behind the air con pipes and cleaned that main earth lead aswell,
i then removed the egr pipe and valve and noticed the vave seemed full of soot , i used an old type metal coat hanger curved hook to push in the top hole of the egr valve and push the plunger/valve down and sprayed it with loads of carb cleaner , (wear goggles) then used and old tooth brush and a little artist brush and more carb cleaner to remove all the soot , i then did the coat hanger part again untill it looked totally clean , next i disconnected the 02 plug , injectors & coil plugs , inspected and all looked good no corrosion and reassembled, i next removed the n/s floor cover and unplugged the ecu and cccu and unpluged all the other wiring plugs and checked . after reassembly i reconected the battery and turned ingnition to on waited 5mins again and then off , started my A2 and shes not had a splutter or missfie as of yet and the engine got a new note running sound to it , not so fierce sounding as before but loads more power it seems.
now to my upgrade from Q CCCU & ECU to a AF Version, ive read through many threads and posts but dont think all the informations sunk in as such as still unsure of the do's and donts,
im thinking ile need a AF CCCU & ECU & speedo cluster and keys and hoping this would just be a plug in and go affair but i would need this confirming by someone who knows, also would the AF components need to be sourced from a 1.4 petrol to match my A2 or does this only affect the ECU , with the ECU and keys would i also need the speedo cluster and lastly if its just a matter of reprograming these units to suit my car who would be able to help me with all this if i do decide to upgrade.
Ive also read of a software upgrade for the ECU's does anybody have any information about this as ive searched and found only a couple of threads with no real help or models covered by these software updates but just that its so the ECU copes with higher milage A2's
Regards Gary
