Use of Forte engine cleaner appears to have helped my FSI ?

Hi all,

Might be a useless post on my behalf but just ran 400ml of Forte engine cleaner through my 1.6 FSI 52 plate with 70k on the clock.

Before I did this there used to be a really noticeable gap between under 2800rpm and above, like a lurch of power at 2800 especially in second.

Now I have ran it through and done an italiain tune up (red line in gears) the transition between the two inlet modes seems much smoother and the power delivery more continuous.

What do people think about this?

Driven car again and correction it drives like new - drives now exactly like my dads colleagues 2004 car with 35k on the clock:)

Joe, will admit I am sceptical about the long term/non-placebo effect of this treatment.
Could you post updates please as a few of us would be interested if it really did improve things for more than a few weeks.

Hi guys, basically, have a 2.0 Cabrio that failed its MOT on emissions a year or so back and the mechanic said to me that it was basically clogged through a lack of use and town driving. I put 500ml in with around 1/4 tank and gave it about 30 mins drive doing italian tune up. Regularly within the drive taking it past 5000rpm in 2nd 3rd 4th. It passed the emissions test afterwards easily.

I ordered some off ebay shortly after which has been sitting in the garage for a while.

The guidelines say 1 bottle for 50l ( around 1 tank of fuel) and drive briskly occasionally.

I did the same as what I did on the cabrio and put the whole thing in for around 1/4 tank and blasted my A2 along a dual caridgeway.

After rather quickly using quite a lot of fuel I filled the tank up with normal 97 RON

The cars transition between flaps closed and open (cant remember the technical terms ) is now not as immediate and much more smooth and there are less flat spots.

You simply pour it in the fuel filler cap - some mechanics put a small amount in the fuel filter too but thats not me.

All ingredients on the bottle were organic (no nasty stuff)

Your A2 has direct injection, so the fuel goes in directly in th cylinder. So what your "cleaner" may have possibly cleaned is only the combustion chambers (well, the above part, the head) and the exhaust "channels" (valves and what's after).
So if you feel a diffrence between the 2 injection modes, it has nothing to do with a clean of the intake system, flap or something else.
To attempt to clean those parts, you have to use a can of cleaner spray.

For what it's worth, I used Wynns EGR cleaner on my TDi last year (bought from Ebay) - they do one for diesels so I presume they do one for petrol cars too - spray it directly into the intake manifold. Disgusting stuff came out the exhaust that time!
