vag-com cruise control issue

i have fitted cruise control myself to my 1.4tdi 2002, making the loom myself and soldering to the switch end and using an old audi ecu plug to salvage the pins for the a2 ecu and soldering the joints, however it will not turn on even traveling over 40mph.

should there be a light in the dash when cruise is on?
(i dont have dis just basic instrument panel)

vag-com is enabled and i see the g at logon to engine 01

at first i thought it was the clutch switch or brake switch

in measuring blocks (engine on and at idle and all doors boot closed) i see the cruise show as 1 when i switch it on and each pedal shows as 1 when pressed.

should i also see something change when pressing set/resume at idle or do i need to be going over 30kmph for this to show via vag-com?

if the pressing of set/resume should show on measuring blocks what may i have done wrong?

any other things i need to be doing to get it working?

thanks

simon

That's odd. I created these instructions, yet in this version my original text has been changed from:

Parts: VW Sharan CC kit, p/n 7M0998527B, e.g from shop4volkswagen.co.uk price £63.62
Comprises: Wiring harness intended for VW Sharan: p/n 7M0 971 425 P
CC stalk p/n 1J0 953 513 01C

to:

Parts: VW Sharan 1.9 TDi CCS kit available from VW Teesside ( http://vwgolfr32.co.uk )
Comprises: Wiring harness intended for VW Sharan
CCS stalk

Anyone know what's going on? VW Teeside wants a lot more money for the same part.

Stinks of someone with an interest in VW Teeside trying to rip people off.

Added 15/2/10:
As you'll read further on in this thread, VW Teeside is not a main dealer. He's a sole trader and probably doesn't get the volume discounts available to other sellers. Rip-off is an emotive term and I'm not sure it applies to people with high costs offering stuff at a fair margin, which may be the case here. I guess the main issue he'll face is that most people shop around and buy from the cheapest supplier.

Well, as neither of the cruise stalks listed is actually correct for the A2, I'll pull the instructions, until a fix is found for Bobs situation.

There is a reason why people travel to have me do this work - I do it right, using the right parts and first time, with a 2 year warranty for peace of mind too.

I'll continue to try and help Bob behind the scenes, but meanwhile I think you need to contact the people at VW MrK!!

Cheers,

Mike

Now I really puzzled. As you will remember, I fitted my CC with no problems and got it right first time. The only improvement I could make is a better live feed take-off, but no-one in the know was forthcoming regarding its location. The stalk I mention is a straight swap and some people prefer this newer version. OK, it was never fitted to the A2, but the only downside is that it looks different from the picture in the manual and it's slightly easier to use.

I'm not sure why you want me to contact VW.

Why contact VW? Simple - you yourself said it looks like someone with an interest has altered your document.

With regard to the 'new' stalk, this is a complete falousy - the 1J stalk is no newer or older than the 8L. However, there is a 'correct' stalk to use and this is the 8L, as it is specified in the manuals and is used in factory builds (or was!).

Easier to use? Again, personal preference, but there is a reason why this stalk is used and that is to differentiate between the end buttons on cars equipped with full DIS - different tactile surface.

I'm not denegrating your efforts - and I will congratulate you on installing the cruise, however, it's not a job for those who are not familiar with electronics and certainly not something that you should be messing with as the potential to **** something up is large!!

Like I said before, there's a reason that people come fair old distances to see me over this job!

Cheers,

Mike

stalk

i fitted original cruise stalk 8L0 953 513J not the new style one as i wanted to keep it standard and the same instructions as in the a2 manual for operation.. ps i have no business interest in vw teeside they just sent me the fitting instructions.

I suspect VW Teesside have 'borrowed' fitting guides from many owners club web sites and modified the text to promote products they sell

Cheers Spike

They have been contacted to let them know that there's a potential problem with the instructions they have lifted for the A2 and they have temporarily suspended it from their site.

There is no 'kit' of parts available to retrofit cruise to any A2, so I'd recommend that people are not taken in by such offers from VW Teeside, or other sources.

Cheers,

Mike

It seems the sole trader behind VW Teeside - they are NOT a franchised dealership - has not removed the instructions as requested and indeed is denying that they harvested the (inaccurate) fitting guide from A2OC.

This person has registered as a member of A2OC today and initially was denied, as they failed the registration check. They complained and were then authorised, but I have since banned them again, as they have no interest in A2s other than to pilfer information from here to use on their site.

They are still maintaining that a kit is available, but yet are charging 54% over the normal retail price for it.

Can I assure all members that THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A CRUISE RETRO-FIT KIT FOR THE A2.

Also, the stalk they are selling, although a genuine VW model, IS NOT SUITABLE FOR THE A2 and is NOT AS PER FACTORY SPECIFICATION.

Spike, you were bang on the money with your comments before!

Cheers,

Mike
