Hi just left the house in the A2 and got a warning light. Car seems to be running ok and oil level in range but not to top . Any suggestions while i wait for the AA !

Seems I can't upload from phone. It's a red exclamation mark in red circle . Covers the whole of display that's between the Speedo and rev counter

It's a brake system fault. Could be low brake fluid. I think I had that one (amongst others) when my brake light switch went on my 2002 TDI.

Spot on diagnosis . I feel a bit like I should have checked more carefully. Went into panic mode is the best excuse I can offer. It was low brake fluid. Topped up and seems fine . Thanks as usual . A2 forum subscribers are amazing

Hi A2Si,
As a follow up to this when did you last have the pads changed?
As in my experience the low level may well mean that the pads are towards the end of their life hence the lower level as extra is needed to make contact with the disc.
Hope that helps you

I'm sure I had that symbol when the brake pad sensor cable got a break in it. This is a common fault on the near side wheel after many years of flexing. If it is that, then I made a guide how I replaced the last bit of cable and plug by splicing in a short repair cable. You can also use a long repair cable and splice in inside the engine compartment or the same long cable and connect at the proper place at the bottom of the A pillar on the near side passenger footwell, but you then have to get the cable through the bulkhead.

Yes they are well on the way to needing changing. So now I will be drawing out some fluid when I change the pads. It's no big deal really just feel a bit silly calling the AA for this. No worries though all sorted no cost and I checked the pads and discs . All ok for the time being
