I had that, it was a Lambard sensor fault, just under £300 to fix with a new part (including fitting). But of course it could be almost anything!
restart the engine, see if it's still there. Then get someone with VAG-COM to read the error.

Thanks, unfortunately switching off the engine does not reset this warning light. As the car is approaching 100K miles, I suspect it is time to replace the NOX/Lambda sensor which shouldn't be a big job - right?
