Water in passenger footwell

I would like to remove the carpet from the passenger footwell, but I think the A pillar plastic needs to come out first. Does anybody know how to remove the plastic and does the glove box have to be taken out. I'm hoping to trace where the water is getting in. At the moment, there is only a small amount.

Hi Ian,

In order to remove the passenger carpet, the glove compartment can remain in situ.

In all cases I've known of water getting into the front footwells, the problem has been due to a poorly fitted windscreen.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Ian
Just to add from my experience.

Water in the footwell can also be caused by problems with door seals / misalignment of doors particularly if doors have suffered the hinge cracking described in other posts on this site.
worth having a quick check of door alignment and closure before replacing your windscreen. Of course you may already have done this.

Cheers

Pete

Just thought I'd add that my footwells were absolutely saturated with water - Tom and WOM both looked at the car independently and were surprised that the CCCU had not been damaged by the ingress of so much water.

Had the screen refitted and hey presto, no more leak.

Up to that point I had condensation daily, at first in the corners of the screen near the dash, and on particularly bad winter mornings the condensation froze on the inside of the screen. So much happier now I only have to de-ice one side of the windscreen these days!!

Thanks for the responses, I have checked all the door seals and they are ok. Where did you have your screen re-fitted Darkhorse? I have spoken to a couple of windscreen replacement people and they are talking £120+ for the job. Mine is not the original Audi screen, so it may not have been fitted properly.
Ian.

Ian.

I had mine done by National windscreens whilst it was at WOM Automotive in Uttoxeter having some work done. I think it was around £65 for the reseal. They know the guy so he knows to put a good amount of sealant in the right areas :p

You could always see if the guy would come to you. I don't have his details but if you called WOM then they might be able to put you in touch.
