Wayward Washer Jets

I've finally had enough of washing the roof :( So had the lid off yesterday and had a look at the washer jets, as I couldn't understand why the jets were squirting at an angle and so overshooting the car at one side and hitting the wiper arm at the other side of the jet fan. All became clear, the jets are mounted in the plastic screen drainage trim, this isn't rigid and the jets are loose in the mounting holes, methinks a bit of bad design here.[9]

A cheap and simple fix:D take a black cable tie and cut 2 x 1" (sorry only imperial here) sections and slip these under the inner edge of the jet, by that I mean the side that is towards the middle of the car. This packs the jets and makes them sit almost level. Adjust the washers so they now hit the screen and the job's a good un [8D]

I will try to get some pictures if I can get the batteries to last longer than 10 seconds in the camera, and then send them to Stuart.

mine washed the roof too... but they adjust up and down as standard... I just pressed them down a bit and they were fine. Why did you have to take the bonnet off?

I thought that the jets might not be mounted correctly in the panel, so I removed the bonnet to get a better look. The main problem was that the fan of water wasn't horizontal there was about a 20 degree lift towards the near side caused by the mouning surface being uneven and not rigid.

On delivery the jets sprayed into the bottom of the screen, way too low. I adjusted them upwards just using my thumb (after advice from Dennis I think). Fortunately they were spraying level though.

YES i had the same problem of spraying the roof so managed to adjust them by using my thumb.
Went into the Audi dealer and saw the 2003/2004 a2 version and they have re-dsigned the washer jet formation so you have 4 jets spraying onto the windscreen this seems better than the spray set up on the 2001 model.
Seems like the sprays are mounted inside the plastic drain panel.
Weather or not they are better remains to be seen. Maybe someone who has just bought and a2 can let me know.

I have found a solution to the problem! The answer costs money but works! You need to buy a new plenum chamber cover part number A8Z2 819 403 EO 1C that will accommadate the 2003 double jet washers. These jets are handed part numbers A8ZO 955 987 D & A8ZO 955 988 B. Total cost £22.31 plus VAT. These 4 jets can be adjusted to wet the screen where you want it rather than wash the wiper arms or the roof.
The conversion has worked well for me.
p.s. I bought new elbows & "Y" piece connector plus new plastic piping. These proved unnecessary if you heat the connectors with a hair-dryer to make them soft enough to sepearte from the old jets & then soft enough to fit the new jets

Does this mean that prior to 2003 that the A2 only had two jets [?]

a2-1436, good tip. Could you post a photo of the new jets? A fitting guide would be really appreciated if you have the time and can remember all the steps you took? http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/guides.htm
