Cheapest electric solution i think is coolant heater like this. It may be installed in line with coolant hose and has pump to circulate the engine coolant while heating. With temp controller it turns off and on automaticly depends on engine temp. It costs from 40 EUR new.

I’ve looked at these however a lot have alu elements, I’m never she if this will cause corrosion issues.

Saw these. You can get them for £30. Russian made so not sure what safety standards they are measured against. They seem the most common form of this heater.

Didn't some of the old Tatras have a petrol heater under the seat or something?

Yes they did, Or at least the 603 series did. The "603" forms part of my email address as a car I would like to own. I think that their price is going up faster than my savings though!
