Weird clicking noise from steering wheel (SE FSI)

Hi guys,

My A2 fsi has started making a rather annoying clicking noise when you turn the steering wheel.

Im certain its coming from the wheel, or the cowl, and not the actual steering rack or driven wheels.

It's like a clicking sound, crossed with something rubbing. It's annoying me now, and has got louder since I moved the steering column adjuster about trying to see if I could stop it. I thought I would ask on here, because I remember my old megane 225 went back to the dealers with a metallic rubbing noise, and it ended up needing a new steering column.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks :)

Yep this is what I think it is too. It sounds like a zip tie. I moved the steering wheel adjustment and its a lot quieter now, so will have a poke around at some point.

All other issues with this turned out to be the slip ring (or squib, or steering angle sensor if you will), but this is usually accompanied with a CEL
