I just wonder if AUDI comes with another small car like the A2 if they are realy going to take it out of stock?
The Skoda fabia is for me no option [32] and I also dont like the Seat Ibiza.
The car I am gonna replace my now 3y old A2 is gonna be a hard one to choose.
Or I could safe some money and drive it till it is the all time classic it is gonna be eventualy[33]
Dont know yet what we are gonna do a lot of options.
1 keep this one
2 buy another new A2
3 buy a Citroen XSARA piccasso
4 new Scenic from renault
4 Stilo wagon
5 Mazda premacy
Who has other suggestions for me

How about the Ford C-Max? Reviews rate it well against the Scenic and Touran. In fact, what about the Touran (keeping in the VAG family?).

There is the SEAT Altea coming out next year-that is very nice. Or there is the 307SW.

That's the trouble these days-too many cars to choose from. Just ask yourself-if you had £20k to buy a car today-what on earth would you buy!!!

What sort of tasks do you want the car to do?

I'm in the same boat not knowing of anything suitable to replace all the virtues of the A2 with... low insurance, good economy, good quality, rarity, looks, space, etc etc... Looking at it that way most other cars are just too common. You see hundreds of Scenics and Picassos a day and I don't want that. The true spiritual succesor to the A2 under the new VAG scheme is the SEAT Altea...

The new Scenic does feel very special on the inside though and more distinctive than a Ford C-Max im my view... See my Frankfurt show report under carpark.

I'm looking for a new car too. My a2 has become too small for my changed needs unfortunately. Since the a2 will be discontinued, the resale prices are going down slightly.
Since I want a tdi with an automatic gearbox the choice was greatly reduced.

I've tried out several cars, I even tried the Touran although this cars looks very boring. But if you just try and sit behind the wheel, you realise you don't want to drive a truck, it's horrible! And according to several dealers it will turn out a huge flop.

I also tried the Scénic, looks nice, but feels too small for my needs. Although a longer version is coming in a few months time.
Today I've tried the Espace 2.2 tdi and I like it very much. The Espace keeps a very good resale value (for a Renault at least)

I will miss my a2 though!

I have often thought about what I want next!
Having negotiated with my wife that I can get a two door car if I want to, I'm now thinking that I would want to get something still a little unique with character and not a mainstream model.
At the moment, the top of my list is the new Smart Roadster-Coupé (the one with the boot): http://www.cardesignnews.com/autoshows/2002/paris/highlights/h15-smart-roadster.html

Although...I must admit that I would very much miss the A2, it's handling and torque. So for now it has a guaranteed place in my garage, atleast for the next 10 months (until things start to go wrong with it!).

Some more alternatives:
Although they're a step down, so to speak, you might also consider the
- mazda 2
- honda jazz

The mazda is based on the new ford fiesta, but I can't help liking the rear end. Strange combo of mazda and alfa romeo. Good handling and both diesel and petrol versions.

But the Jazz is my personal favorite. On the inside it does not compare to the A2 - it may feel like a toy. But still well built, VERY practical and spacious. Nice engine too, but no diesel. Put a few 16" alloys on a Jazz and it will look like nothing else. No-one had one like that.

Oh, and if you consider the horrible mazda premacy, then you might also look at the Honda Stream. Way better.

P.S. Where's the Opel Meriva?! ;)

Good luck!

Snap. Received the details in the post today. We saw the first one on the road last week in silver and black - very cool. The only negative is at £14,5k it makes the A2 look like the deal of the century.

I've had all the info for a little while - saw my first on the back of a transporter full of Smarts on the M1 yesterday...gorgeous!

Agree, it is quite costly, but it's very unique and as far as I can see there are only a few options needed to be added to make it a well kitted little sports car.

Has anyone seen the Top Gear review on the latest Smart? Jeremy was, as usual, without mercy!
But the bottom line had a moral: although it has no real sportscar qualities, it is the cheapest way to have a good looking car that handles quite well and that at least make you 'feel' like it's the business.

Personally, I'd hire one for a day. Like I did with a Lotus Elise once. Great little car, but only for a day!
If I want a sports car, I'd go for a very very fast stationwagon any day. Audi RS4 Avant, anyone?

Saw a Ford C-max today......mmmmmm.....overgrown Fiesta. That's why I looked at it twice-thought "that's a weird Fiesta, oh it's a C-Max". Forget it.

Get a Tourag diesel and climb over anything that gets in your way!.

Has anyone seen the Citroen C2? I saw one yesterday, looks quite funky.

C2 is quite funky but very tiny too... has only 4 seats!!! And a very stupid twin rear hatch affair with the lower part dropping down and a normal hatch above... fine on a Range Rover but not in a city car I think... the aperture left if you open only the top part is really to small to get things in... so you basically always have to open both. Would drive me nuts.

I know what you mean, my brother's got a Laguna estate which has got the same thing, it's more of a gimmick rather than something which is practical.

But the Laguna and Range Rover have got a deep boot so you can actually put something through the top half only if you wish. The C2's aperture between the rear seat and the top of the bottom hatch (if left closed) is only about 250mm!!!!

Bit of a devil in parking spaces with someone close to your rear, or if you fold the seats down to load something in-you'll have to stretch in further to reach it.
