What would be your dream engine swap?

Was seeing which A2's were for sale currently and a 1.6 which skipped timing is for sale for only €700.
(https://www.nettiauto.com/audi/a2/13968437 in Finland, bear in mind).
People have done engine swaps on A2's before and this would make a good candidate.
Which engine would you swap in? Would you go for a sporty 1.8T as others have done, go for a more modern fuel efficient engine or something else entirely like an electric conversion?

It would probably be immensely difficult (and expensive), but the Porsche 996 has nearly the same track width as the A2 so perhaps there is a way to put the rear subframe, engine, gearbox etc. in and make an A2 version of the Clio V6. πŸ˜„

Get the 2.5 TFSI from an RS3 / TTRS, along with the 4WD system, and create a mid-engined A2. That's what I'm doing if I win the lottery!

My dream engine would be the legendary 5 cylinder 2.133 engine with a kkk k27 turbocharger. The sound from this on song is awesome. I remember hearing these cars before i could see them while watching rallying back in the late 80'S.
Doubt very much if one of these could be shoe horned into an A2 though.

Dull reply maybe but EV for me, would be perfect for how I use my car and the wife has an EV6 and its really told me how nice they are for daily driving. I know people have some projects on the go re this, I'm not that into that as "a thing" (fair play to them though), but if I could snap my fingers and have an EV A2 I would.

I reckon it would stick pretty far out the front of an A2.

Audi RS6 V8 4.0 Bi Turbo Petrol Engine in anything.

When I was 18 ( 1974 ) I had a Split Screen Morris Minor Fitted with a Riley 1.5 Twin Carb β€œ B β€œ Series Engine and Gearbox. The Front Panel / Radiator Grille had been moved forward by about 12” to fit it in. I later acquired a Stage 1 Tuned β€œB” Series Engine - Polished and Ported Head, Balanced Crankshaft, Rods and Pistons, MGA Camshaft. That was great but used to Snap Halfshafts for fun. I was always down the Scrapyard finding Spare Halfshafts. Used to carry them in the Boot for roadside repairs.

I think Celsisones 1.8T swap is the way to go πŸ‘ other options are probably too big or heavy for light A2. Or maybe 2.5TFSI from RS3 but with completely different layout...

In an effort to update the eco credentials I'd have a 1.2TDI commonrail with a manual 4WD gearbox. I'd then attach an electric motor to the rear drive gearbox output in order to create a hybrid. Battery power for city stop start driving, diesel power when cruising. I'm sure this idea would have lots of issues but I've never really understood why no-one has produced a hybrid version of a small diesel engine and blown the world away with real world 120mpg.

This is something I have wondered as well.
The Volkswagen Xl1 had a diesel hybrid, but that's not really a production car.

I'd be tempted to try and get something like the BMW i3 power train with its 2-cylinder as a range extender.

We ran an Audi Q7 diesel hybrid for three years and with mostly long distamce runs the average economy over 75000 miles was 46mpg which I did not think was too bad for a 2.25 tonne vehicle.

It was never publicly produced, but the 1.4 litre twin turbo V6 that smart made for the prototype smart roadster V6 would be a laugh.. 170 bhp, 220 Nm torque, total weight around 120kg.
