Wheel Bearing

Hi not been on for a while as im busy doing some home improvements at the moment.
But in the last week or 2 when i get to 30mph and above i have what i can only describe as a loud roar plus the quicker i go the louder it gets.

It seems to be coming from the passenger side but cant be one hundred percent sure but im pretty sure its a wheel bearing.

Now i know this will need specialist equipment to remove so will probably be expensive.
Just out of interest can any one tell me the cost of the bearing.

Cheers if you can help and Happy Easter.

I once thought I had a wheel bearing going on mine, but it turned out to be the wear pattern on the tyre. When I changed the tyre, the noise stopped. Maybe try swapping two wheels around first to see if the noise moves/ goes away?

Hi David
As Dan indicated, the tyres are worth checking. I ended up changing a wheel bearing because of tyre noise from a set of brand new Pirelli P6's.
I had a genuine Audi bearing assy (off e.bay) I removed the front upright and took the bits to Teesside Audi but they refused to press in the bearing and would only do the job if I drove the car in and they did the full stripdown and assembly. Their excuse was about blame allocation if something failed.
I suspect a bearing assy will cost around £90 now but I suggest you don't buy one until you have sorted out who will do the job. Even non-franchised workshops can be difficult if things go wrong with customer supplied parts so its safer for them to supply and fit the bits.

Cheers Spike

Try to jack it up and spin the wheel with your hands, if the bearing is bad you should hear it. On my car the rear bearings had to be changed at 115 000 miles and the front bearings not too long after that.

Well having took all the advice given i can confirm it is the front wheel bearings but on both sides i think this is going to be expensive to put right.

I suspect a bearing assy will cost around £90 now.

Looking on Ebay though not going to buy any on there they range from £40 to £73 so i think that £90 is in the right sort of range.
Will find out Tuesday when i ring IVC .

Well final installment of my bearing troubles and just picked the car up after not only the wheel bearings(rear not front as i thought) but its had brake shoes(cracked) hand brake cable(seized) brake cylinders(both sides leaking) and a new spring fitting kit for the rear brakes the brakes checked and the system bleed came to a grand total of
