Will this S/wheel fit?

You see if that was investigated correctly then the insurance would be invalid and it would not get paid out. Not much help if your seriously injured or disabled for life or being sued by a 3rd party.

That doesn't sound like a good outcome?

It has
There are 2 front end crashed TT's that had the later flat bottomed steering wheel modified to fire both at once, neither went off
Not scientific but in one of the crashes the passenger airbag did.

I think it's probably safer to adjust the volume by reaching for the head unit than have the convenience of a control on the steering wheel but no airbag.
I've no doubt that Mike Skipton's setup is done properly, so it's clearly possible...

Unless tested how do you know?
The TT's were both done by professionals and thought to be done 'properly'

The main purpose of the MFSW is to control the hands free & DAB, it's not for radio volume or channel changing. I have the same setup as Mike although mine is not flat bottomed. So switching to genuine with a single stage airbag seems to be the way to go and it's not nearly as expensive a solution as the A4/TT/A3 wheel and A4 controller.

I suppose I have faith in Mike's desire to stay alive coupled with his general thoroughness.

Ah, once again, my thinking is too rooted in simple things like CD players and analogue radio. My idea of in-car entertainment.

I always refuse steering wheel single to dual stage conversions, I just don't want to be sued a year later when someone ends up cabbaged in a ditch and they track it back to my work.

I've done it in my own car simply for my benefit and I'm taking the risk, but now I've turned 50 I've decided my life is more important

As a general point about air bags, is it right that you're meant to replace them completely after a certain time span anyway? Is it 10 years or something?

Re dan b yes vonnie and I were looking through the service books last week and found that it states 14 years they should be changed --- boy that could be costly min 4 airbags !!!

14 years - thanks for confirmation. I wonder if many people ever do? I reckon that would be a costly replacement exercise for sure!

Elsawin now states 'there is no longer any airbag unit replacement interval' so I guess Audi have checked enough old airbags to be confident they last a lot longer than 14 years.

Cheers Spike

Good news on the airbag replacement interval, bad news on the later wheel retrofit, I was aiming to put an A1 wheel in :(

The A1 is totally different again and the A4 steering wheel controller doesn't support the extra buttons that the A1 wheel has.

Well I got my first airbag fault today with the dual stage wheel, it was particularly cold overnight and when i checked the fault with VCDS it was my steering wheel causing the problem with low resistance, a common fault in cold weather on dual stage conversions. So I can't wait to get my new single stage wheel with buttons.

hmm the steering wheel looks nice... specially the color of the wheel and the fabrication on the wheel is making it more good. The control buttons and the other things are also a plus point.. Thanks for sharing the photo.. Nice wheel, i like it.
