Shall I buy an A2 with open sky?
How do you feel when it's really hot and sunny? I live in Lisbon and in summer months we get 30ºC or more...

Does it work well (mechanically speaking)?

What would you do? Those of you who have one, why did you prefered with the open sky?

Thank you,
Cesar

Hi craa2, welcome to the forum!
I've got open-sky on my A2 and certainly recommend it. It opens up the car nicely, letting in plenty of light and also I think looks better from the outside. You can always shut the sun blind if you want to block out the sun. Mechanically, it is perfect and in 3 years, I've not had a single problem.

Thanks Stuart...thats a relief. Is the AC eficcient even with the extra heat?

I have Open Sky as well and will recommend it as well... the difference is amazing. It just opens up the car and lets lots of light in... there is a screen to keep some direct sun out. Go to the main A2OC site and look at the fitting guides... or click here: http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/guides.htm (guide12.pdf) this shows the screen... I would recommend you don't remove the screen in your temperatures though..

The main advantage of the Open Sky in warm weather though is that you can leave it open slightly when you park the car. Only an inch or so and close the screen. All the warm air - that rises obviously - escapes through this gap. You won't believe the difference in inside temperature if you forget to open it a bit... We had nearly 40 deg C weather last summer in London and inside it was prefectly fine when you got back to your car...

Audi's climatronic is also too clever for its own good. So in winter it is difficult to get the old fashioned warm feet and cold face (to keep you awake!) Open the Open Sky a tiny bit and voila: warm feet and cold face!

Is the A2 noisier when driving if you have the OpenSky model compared to standard??. I mean when it is closed of course! I wondered if having a metal roof and some of padding would make it much quieter.

actually the metal roof is far noisier than the glass since it is aluminium...

I understand that the whole of the roof is glass! if this is so, does the roof open much more than a std sunroof on other cars or does it open in 2 places like 2 sunroofs?

18ME, I have the TDi Sport with OpenSky. Like you, I too could not work out how the thing works before I saw it! The whole roof is glass, and there are two panels that move under operation. The foremost glass panel tilts like a regular sunroof at first, and then slides backwards. As it continues sliding towards the rear of the car, a second glass panel immediately behind the first pops up and slides backwards also, simultaneously with the first panel.
The result is akin to a very large regular sunroof. I think about 60% of the roof of the car opens up, and it is a very nice feature! It also looks a lot smarter than a regular sunroof, as it makes up the entire roof of the car, and not just a letterbox cut into the roof! ;)

Hope this explanation helps?!

I'm afraid that the deal that I was hoping to have on an A2 didn't come to fruition so I've gone for another car but I still fancy having an A2 in the near future if anyone wants to sell their's, as long as its got the sunroof.
