Worried about the engine flooding?

I have been thinking about that.
First problem is that there are hundreds of homes that have flooded here so the chances of hiring one are pretty much zero
And as you say there is nowhere to put the water. The house is an island at the moment!!!
But it might have bought us a little time.
The problem is that the experts are saying that the floods could last until MAY.
That would be a hell of a lot of diesel. Shane I couldn't hook something up to the TDI that would be more economical.
If I was to remove the intake hose from the turbo and connect pipes to the house. It would keep the turbo cool.
Sorry, that was an attempt at humour :).

A2's don't fare well in water as you probably know. A couple of members have had total loss experiences from driving through flood water. If you can't navigate a way through the water where it remains lower than the floor and engine tray level -say 6 inch or so, I'd be tempted to hire a salvage firm to lift them out for you on one of their wee transporters. . Expensive I know but I'd hate the thought of you trying to drive the cars out and them stalling in the water. It'd be like insult to injury. Don't worry about swerve away from car chat. The a2oc community is like a family and I'm sure everyone is thinking of you guys and the offers of help from those close by is good to see. Good luck.

Talking of families - What's the difference between inlaws and outlaws ?

Back to reality. To move the cars a short distance through deep water consider disconnecting the intake pipework between the air cleaner and MAF. That would increase the wading depth significantly, but with a slight risk of some dirt being sucked into the engine. Maybe a piece of well secured mesh over the pipework would minimise this.

I always refer to my in-laws as "the piles",

That is because they come down, hang around and they are a pain in the XXXX !!!

Sorry to bring this back to A2's but if you have a reasonably flat concrete drive under the flood couldn't the A2's be kept dry by using bottle jacks? I guess it would work well so long as you had something to bolt them to.

HI,

No need to apologise, this thread was posted in "The relaxation room" so discussions can be non related to A2s or even related ! All are welcome.

The problem is that we need to use two of the cars anyway and the other one is up for sale.

But I think we might be evacuated soon and the insurance company will cover the cost of a transporter (I hope)

So the cars should be fine, thanks for the suggestion, it is appreciated.

fantastic! I get along great with my outlaws and as they are with us from yesterday to attend a funeral in Glasgow this morning, and also announced their intention to stay until Friday - your post really did make me laugh out loud! Much as I love them my weeks annual leave is officially ruined.

The advice just goes to show that it is the typical one size fits all advice rather than advice that takes your circumstances into consideration.

Do you have any idea when they'll come to rescue you?

Anyone else having this problem? It works OK when I try it.

As for the rescue, Wraysbury is a small Village but there is one area around the centre and we are at the far end of the village.

We have Ed Milliband, 4 or more TV vehicles, rescue boats, Soldiers and lots of volunteers in the centre but nothing at our end of the village.

At the moment we don't need rescuing, but it is a question of time.
