Hello today i finally fix my instrument display . Now the display is nice and bright but i have only reading for outside temperature. My instrument dashboard is with small display and lock like this http://www.tasminphoto.co.uk/hosted/cars/AUDI/nonDIS.jpg . I try to change the information on the display but have only service information noting else. Is this true only information for outside temperature and service on the small display? My audi 1.4 aua late 2002.

Yes. That is the standard display. The one that has the MPG information etc is called DIS (FIS in mainland Europe).
it is posdible but expensive and tricky to swap to a DIS unit.

So i only stuck with a basic information on the dis/fis? So no way to make my dis showing more info like mpg? No mater it's great to have working dis :) 10x Birchall :)

You can get it changed by buying the right instrument cluster with DIS and paying a specialist / Audi to code it to your car.

But they are very difficult to find and very expensive.

Hello again today i see an a2 from my friend model 2002 1.4 tdi. And for my surprise he have a small fis like mine but his fis was giving information about outside temperature and fuel consumption. here is photo? I want to ask again is there any way to have that info on mine to ;(

I have never seen that display like that before.

Are you sure his was a 1.4 tdi and not a 1.2litre TDI? The cluster is almost certainly a 1.4 tdi one!!!
I have never seen a UK spec A2 with that info on it, but I have not seen a 1.2 tdi in action, so that may be the reason?

Paging RAB / other 1.2 owners !!!

If this can be done (and not only on a 1.2) then you would make a lot of people happy!!!
But I expect even if it was possible it would be for non UK cluster? But who knows?

FIS-Control can probably do it, but that's not made any more. There are investigations ongoing, but I suggest you ask your friend what he's done.

Small displays don't deliver - as standard - as much information as the big ones.

EDIT says no, FIS control can't do this. This is not something I've seen before or heard of someone doing.

A mystery then wonder if anyone can clear this up for us all!
 
From what I can determine, it looks like it is a very clever mod, not VCDS, but more like hacking into the software of the cluster.

You would need to be quite clever at playing around with the programming of the display, so it would be great if anyone can point us in the right direction.

As we know, the info is there already (you can get dongles that will give you MPH, 0 to 60 times etc. etc. on your smartphone.

It is "just" a case of finding out how to change the coding of the display to show the data that is already available in the A2?

Perhaps the guy who's A2 it is that is shown in the picture, can be asked how it was achieved.

no, it's not that simple. not all the information is already on the bus and that which is has very specific encapsulation. Some of the Germans are currently looking at some stuff to do with this. It would not surprise me if someone's managed to get it to work somehow, beacuse this is the basic information which is probably always availalble and in a consistent manner.

The car from the photo don't have that arm, just an arm for wiper.

it looks like we will therefore not be able to find out how the instrument cluster was modified.

Thr Wiper arm you mention is designed for a full FIS system and so would only work with that. (Unless the person who modified that instrument cluster somehow made it work with the "half FIS".)

So first of all, we still do not know how the instrument cluster can be modified to provide extra information on the "half FIS" so there would be no point in buying the wiper arm you mention.

Remember that we have never seen a "half FIS" modified like this before even though we have some very expert guys on here. So this looks like it is a one-off or even a "non-UK" modification.

So, as yet we do not know how this can be done.

A full DIS (FIS) conversion service is being offered by Tom (Timmus) in the UK.

I would expect Tom's prices to be very reasonable and the standard of work would be second to none.

So anyone wanting to upgrade from the "half DIS" in the UK have options.
