Can you please post a thread called 'items for Issue 2' in the usual place and add it so I don't forget?

Thanks

My TDi has had 2 services - one at 32,500 m and one at just under 60,000 m. The latter was done early so as to get things fixed under warranty.

Incidentally, there are requirements to replace belts and brake fluid at 60k miles. This puts up the cost. Over £400.

Just to add some "peace of mind" from my experience with synthetic oils and their change intervals: I fist began using synthetic oils back in the 1970's in the USA. There, Mobil came out with their product, "Mobil 1" and advertised 50'000 miles or more between oil changes! Most of us in the business (I have been in the retail automobile business since 1971) thought it heresy, but later found out that it is actually conservative. Real synthetics (and don't confuse these with mineral oil/synthetic blends) will easily go 50K miles plus between changes. In fact, one close friend drove his vehicle over 150K miles changing only the filter and adding synthetic when necessary. The engine was in excellent condition, full compression readings, no "blow-by", etc. This made me a believer. The "blackness" in the oil is exactly what the Castrol Rep stated, that the oil is doing its job and capturing carbon. Diesels always generate much more carbon than petrol, but after 50K miles your petrol oil would like about the same. So, the moral of the story is: 1. don't pollute the environment with any more used oil than necessary.2.Learn to check and not change your oil. 3. Have your oil changed (this have never been a "fun" job)with full synthetic after 30K miles. 4. Donate the money you save to your favorite charity.

How the Audi garages change the oil:
They remove the bonnet.
They put a long steel pipe down into the engine. It's connected to a vacuum pump.
They switch on the pump to suck the oil out.

In contrast to Castrol's experience my Audi dealer (a personal friend)said that customers who have their cars serviced on the variable service schedule have more problems with their cars. They say even their business customers are now bringing their cars in for service on the 15,000km (10,000 miles) schedule.

With all due respect to the specialists at Castrol I remain wary of long distances between oil changes. In the past diesels always had shorter service intervals than petrol engines and now they are saying the intervals can be longer for diesel rngines than petrol. I hear A2 diesels are particularly highly stressed engines (high torque from a very small engine with a turbocompressor running at over 2 atmospheres.) I'd rather change the oil more frequently than buy a new engine when it is out of warranty. Do you know the cost of an exchange engine? Do you know the cost of the turbocompressor alone? Do you want to find out?...

Just clocked 13000 motorway miles - no oil used yet - service indicator says 19,000 to go!

- That'll be before the end of the year then!

Wow
i never knew the compressor was under so much pressure but hey Audi have been building cars for a long time i think they know what they are doing when designing the car engine and oil used in the engine and when the service intervals should be carried out.
But if i do have any problems audi will be answering many questions and not just the dealer but head office in uk and gmbh
So CHIVERS just chill out and enjoy the drive and don't worry about the oil and i bet you never have to worry about the turbo compressor and engine o.k.

cheers andy.[5]
