BlueMusic Humming

On the Audi, there is a charge lead plugged in to the phone. i saw your comment about USB chargers earlier, and I will see if it happens when I remove the charge lead. And try that trick on the Rover
The Rover, the Amp is a 4 channel amp IIRC, will check when I get home. All the inputs are also used IIRC.
I was wondering how two line outs, from the radio, feed four inputs to the amp.
Mac.

Sorry for the delay, but finally got round to pulling the adapter out. No change when I swapped back to the original plugins, so think the problem is with the amplifier or the connections to the rear speakers. Is there a way to kill the power to the amplifier to stop the buzzing?

Hi Mac,

The outputs from the head unit to the factory amplifiers is as follows (not in pin order):

Blaupunkt (rears only) only has 3 inputs
1. Rear right signal
2. Rear left signal
3. Common ground signal

Bose (front and rear) has 5 inputs
1. Rear right signal
2. Rear left signal
3. Front right signal
4. Front left signal
5. Common ground signal

Hope that makes sense Sir.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning Tom. It was @Phil_B 's Rover I was wondering about!
Mac.

Morning Mac,

I did wonder if I was responding correctly. I did go back a few post to see if I could get an understanding of such a question but found nothing convincing. This is why I answered your post with an A2 twist to it. Apologies for confusing things.

Kind regards,

Tom

For now, just unplug the amp.
Because the amp has permanent 12 volts supply, it can cause battery drain if faulty.
Maybe try an ad for an amp in the marketplace, certainly seems like the prime suspect.
Is the underfloor compartment nice and dry?
Mac.

Thanks @PlasticMac . Where is the amp to unplug it? The underfloor on the passenger side (UK) was a bit damp yesterday, but that was immediately after I had cleaned the car

I believe it's in the underfloor compartment on the UK driver's side.
It wouldn't take much dampness to cause the symptoms you have.

I had a leaky screen until late last year, and the amount of water in the underfloor surprised me. Park with the front a bit lower than the rear, to make sure you can see what's going on. If it's damp, it'll stay damp until you find the leak, (and fix it), and take positive steps to dry it out.
There's so much electronics under there, especially the UK passenger side, that makes any dampness a time bomb.
When the car is warm, as in sunny day, the dampness evaporates, and the moist air circulates everywhere under there. When it cools down, you get condensation everywhere.
I hope mine was an extreme example. I had to use a wet vac first, then a fan heater on very low for hours. Finally driving about with the passenger side cover off for weeks.
Screen leak was fixed, and dry as a bone now.
Mac.

Good Morning,

Yes, the driver's contraband underfloor storage. Normally the only thing in there, ignore tape measure.

Have unplugged the amplifier today and it did solve the humming. Tested the speakers by turning the speakers all the way to the rear then going from full left to full right. Didn't matter which way it was turned, sound continued to come out of the passenger side speaker. Does that suggest a short somewhere?

Any suggestions for where to buy a replacement amplifier from. Unless there's a different solution?

I'd definitely swap the amp, quick and easy, and an amp won't cost too much. Put an ad in the market place here, (upgrade account for the princely sum of £2), and you'll almost certainly have offers pdq.
Do you mean the hum only from the passenger side, or actual radio sound, or both?
Mac.

Will do. The hum was from the rear speakers before, but unplugging the amplifier removed the hum altogether
