1.4 TDI Knock From engine bay when tapping accelerator

No, there are two parts in one assembly, the EGR valve and the anti shudder valve.
leave the vacuum pipe connected to the black part as this is the anti shudder valve, remove the pipe and plug it as per timmus comments earlier in this thread that connects to the larger steel coloured part of the assembly (this is the EGR valve)

With the vacuum pipe removed from the EGR valve the anti shudder part will still work as designed, but the EGR will be permanently turned off (until you re attach the vacuum pipe)

Hope this clears up the confusion (this is the case for the AMF engine, later engines have a split EGR and Anti shudder)

Cheers,

Okay so the clean EGR Valve has been fitted today, however, the same noise still persists, either I have another EGR with the same fault or this is not a fault at all and it's a feature of the 1.4TDI

New EGR was cleaned thoroughly, lubricated and had both vacuum actuators checked so I know it's fully working

The noise isn't a fault. It's just the noise that the EGR valve makes as it opens and closes. As has been said a few times, the simple answer is to disconnect the vacuum pipe to the EGR valve.

I will have a look at that, I have heard that without the EGR Valve working you get a bit of a violent shudder when stopping the engine.

That's the anti-shudder valve, not the EGR valve.

I've linked to this thread a few times... http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread...496#post281496
Please read it. It will really help to clear up your confusion.

Cheers,

Tom
