Ha! Nice one Carl. I have a bit more of a beard and a bit less of a chest, but apart from that, it's spot on!

It really annys me when a dealership tries to shirk the repair that we fought so hard for and Audi UK have so generously agreed to.

In this case, it seems that they are getting some money in anyway, by way of a starter motor! There have been a number of reticent dealers in the past, Gilders in Sheffield being the worst, and any of the Audi Southwest Group coming a close second.

When Dave has sent me the photos, I'll see what I can do.

Cheers,

Mike

hahaha that's hilarious!!!

I have emailed you now Mike with all the details. Thank you so much.

BTW they want £500 for a starter motor. Does that sound right to you?

CHeers

:eek::eek:£500 is that the solid gold one lol, if i remember its booked at 1.5 hrs for the starter (i looked in to removing mine to clean SKREEEEECH when starting still not done )

Phil

£330 is the price for a new starter, plus the fitting obviously, but, I presume that they will be keeping the old one, so that price comes down to £215, plus fitting.

Sounds like someone is pulling your plonker a little

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Dave
Lucky you have a the petrol engine as starters for diesels are almost £500. Personally I would always have the original starter stripped and cleaned before considering a new or exchange unit. You would need to be very unlucky to need anything more than a new set of brushes. Check out the cost with a good auto electrician if you don't feel comfortable doing the work yourself.

Cheers Spike

This from Audi Finchley Road. I have now asked them to give me a breakdown of the cost:

To supply and fit a new starter motor to your Audi A2 as requested it will cost 543.00 Inc Parts, Labour and VAT.
It takes a total of 3 hours to carry out and the part would need to be ordered and payed for before as
It is not an item we stock

dash it all . . .

Time to give new life to an old thread;

Have just had my 60K+ longlife service done at Edinburgh Audi, and along with a handful of other things which went wrong (like trying to change my coolant and cam belt despite my whole engine rebuild a year and a half ago) due to too many chiefs and general lack of information continuity, I asked them to look at my drivers door as it didnt seem to close correctly and you could feel it move/wiggle when driving not to mention the wind-noise.

The good news was that they looked at it for free and on the receipt it states 'adjusted and lubricated door mechanism - may require bodyshop', however it appeared to be worse than ever when I got it back, as if they had slackened and loosened it . . . and it was only as I was fitting some Genuine roof bars that I decided to have a look for myself - sure enough 5mm+ cracks above both door hinges . . . I thought that as soon as your car goes into the dealer they scan for tech bulletins against your chassis no?

I then checked this treasure trove of A2 information and found this thread

I wouldnt care but I made a flippant comment about 'not even being able to fix a door' when I had to go back to them today to complain that after having to have a new arb & bushes/sleeves replaced (although they forgot to keep the old one to show me the crack) my car still pulled to the left . . . turns out they hadnt carried out a wheel alignment check as I hadnt asked for it (which I had done but the person I spoke to wasn't in today . . .) and they had to do a road test to confirm the problem only to say it would cost £89 + vat to sort - does this sound right? Sorry to go off topic-ish, but surely an anti-roll bar re-fit would require wheel balance and tracking as well as a test drive?

(have since found a few threads on the bushes . . . b$gg£r, could have saved a couple of hundred quid as I have my doubts as to whether the arb was indeed cracked - it had just passed its MOT with flying colours)

I thought that the new flagship Audi Centre and the fixed price servicing may have indicated the turn of a new leaf for my local dealer . . . but alas its back to VW who are just a nice bunch of down to earth, helpful people.

*oooops  rant over, better leave the £30 wiper blade for another day *

Cheers,

Chris.

(have since found a few threads on the bushes . . . b$gg£r, could have saved a couple of hundred quid as I have my doubts as to whether the arb was indeed cracked - it had just passed its MOT with flying colours)wouldnt necessarily be picked up on the MOT unless really bad . If you read the threads about it then why did you just blindly go into the dealer and ask for a new on e and then moan about the price?! I posted a whole thread about it entitled how to do it for £5 !

*oooops  rant over, better leave the £30 wiper blade for another day * the wiper blade cannot be £30 unless you asked them to fit it, its normally about £12 to £15 depending on flexi type or early

. . . appreciate the show of solidarity, and apologies for the initial rant . . . I should have thought about it and cooled down before posting - but after I saw the threads on door cracking and arb's I felt a right gullible muppet!

I simply asked them (the franchised dealer) to carry out a longlife service and fit a new wiper blade, and that my A2 had covered approx 65K miles now - however I advised them to please be mindful that the engine (and turbo) was replaced a year and a half ago, and that I had had the brake fluid changed with front pads and discs at the same time (yes I now know that I bought a well + truly thrashed little car 2 years ago, which I adore btw!). I asked them to also check the drivers door for me as it didnt seem to fit snugly, and at high speed had excessive wind noise with movement.

Fixed longlife service cost was advertised at £199 . . . so I thought it worth it (instead of my usual VW audi approved service centre) before we embarked on our long summer holidays driving. Yes, perhpas Im being stingy, but have recently been made redundant, so am trying to be careful with my money.

I got a call later that day to say the service had been done (£249 with the door adjusted foc) and did I want to go ahead with the following additional (but advisory red light) issues, this would total some £900+, I opted not to have the coolant, cam belt, brake fluid etc done as this would have been covered by the engine work a year and a bit ago, and this left a couple of minor things like the altenator belt and what I was told was a 'cracked anti-roll bar' + bushes. I didnt want this to fail whilst on holiday so I asked them to replace it and keep the original for me to view (I live 25 mimles from the dealer and used the £20 pick up and drop off option).

At that point I specifically asked them to check the wheel balance and alignment whilst carrying out the work as there was a slight judder in the steering wheel between 50-70ish and that the car pulled to the left slightly (I hadnt intended getting audi to do anything other than the service, but to me it made sense - I was then informed that this would be done as a matter of course with the replacement of the arb + bushes . . . great thought I, 2 birds, 1 stone.

Perhaps you missed that part where I noted that I only found the many very informative threads on the arb problems (including yours which is great) after I gave the go-ahead to get the work done, in fact, if the car wasnt still pulling to the left then I dont think I would have checked the forum at all.

Incidentally, Im not sure if the tracking would take an hour as the technician said the cost was reflective of the state of the art, automated 4 wheel drive, 'beast' that they had which required only checking at the end . . . plus I have just had ATS do a typical laser alignment for £25 which took around 15/20mins.

Lastly, I have an invoice for £30 for the wiper blade 'parts only', which I immediately queried and was informed that fitting was foc!

I rang and left messages today for anyone from the service dept to get back to me regarding the doors so I could at least get the ball rolling, but nothing back . . . so I will have to call again on Monday when I can discuss the above issues with the service representative who initially spoke to me.

Once I have chilled after that conversation I will post the results - in the event it might be of use to someone!?

Lastly, I have an invoice for £30 for the wiper blade 'parts only', which I immediately queried and was informed that fitting was foc!

I had one fitted at a VW dealer on the 12th of this month. £14.13 including vat. The receptionist asked if I wanted it fitted. I said yes if they did it for free (10 sec job I told her) and they did. (had an MOT at the same time}

I hope you get your other problems resolved.

the end result . . .

Well after I came back from holiday, the service person who initially dealt with me admitted it was her error that the alignment was not checked as she had informed me it would be, siting that they normally have to drop the sump to replace the ARB, but didn't need to in my case so therefore didnt need to check the geometry - very kindly however she agreed to take the car back in and do this at no further cost (I would stress that I have been very polite with them to date), and they would then also check for the door crack problem and get back to me.

This has only just happened as I had to wait a fair bit to get a courtesy car (again at no extra cost as I do live 25m from the Dealer), however, while they confirm the car has the door cracking issue, they also say that they have applied to Audi for a goodwill full or part payment and have been informed that this is not possible, the chap I dealt with (Kevin) even put my case to his Service Manager as they have a certain amount of goodwill autonomy themselves, but to no avail!?

I was given no reason for this, just that I would have to pay to get it done.

Mike/Skipton01, I would be very grateful for any help you can offer here . . . I will mail you the written response I asked for along with pics if this helps?

Another For Mike to hopefully sort out,
Dealers bodyshop phoned Audi and was told car out of Warranty.
The end.

Hopefully Mike can prybar some action on me cracked doors. :D

You can't believe that they are still saying this as its got nothing to do with your warranty or lack of, it took me nearly a year untill it got done but that was down to the warranty people at GY Audi so give Mike an PM with dealer details and names, phone numbers etc..... and soon after the heavies got called in and all sorted

Phil

I think there's a new wave of militant unhelpfullness coming from Audi UK on the matter at the moment - there are a few people from all over the country who are reporting the same thing - car out of warranty!

The agreement I got from Jeremy Hicks was that the repairs would be covered by the 12 year anti corrosion perforation warranty, so even the oldest A2s are still in warranty.

I'll do what I can and can't promise anything.

Cheers,

Mike
