A couple more. Sorry forgot who the author is of these...

been there once, glovebox out, bottom trim out, side trim out...in general ok to be done but there was one fixing with hard access but i remember that there is "service" hole in crossbar to access one of the screws

I'm terrible at visualising things, so I thought it would be helpful to have a shot of the glovebox out, so I could work out where the blower fan is.
Strangely, this didn't really help. (Terrible at visualising things).
I'll just wing it! What can possibly go wrong..
Where's the Haynes Manual? Damn. :)

vw polo - blower fan - check this one out...polo but almost exact same in A2...

Ok. Got the glovebox out during a brief lull in the howling winds. That power connector for the glovebox lamp is an arse.
At this point I thought I'd be at least able to see the fan and maybe try turning it, but it's still well hidden?

Ok. I have the glovebox out. How on earth do I get the power lead out of the bloody fan? Seems to have Clips on each end? But pressing them in doesn't release the plugs (looks like somebody tried this with pliers?). Not budging. Any suggestions? I want to get a test meter on it and also try powering direct from battery, but this plug won't play nice..

Good Evening,

Connectors can be a pig. I assume it is this one...

Suggest you post a picture of yours to confirm.

From @Andrew last 2 pictures you can see the plug installed and a removed plug. This clearly shows the stepped locking tapers on each end of the plug. These need to disengage from the corresponding socket in the blower. These plugs are in my opinion not the ideal type for this application and can be a PITA to remove.

Like many plugs these need a little pressure to push them tighter into the socket then the locks may hopefully be undone by squeezing the 2 upper ends together then the plug "should" release. If the squeezing together with your fingers does not work then try carefully using a small thin flat blade screwdriver and pass that down between the upper ends and the hoop they pass through to force the tapers inwards out of the locks.

Thanks guys, (@Andrew @audifan) - that's very helpful. At least I know how it should work, and I have an idea how to get the little b****r out. Now I just have to wait until the bloody monsoon stops outside. ☔

Got the plug out thanks to your helpful photos.
Got a multimeter on it, and it reads 12.55v.
Great. That suggests stuck motor.
Tried running a wire direct from battery to motor and it bloody works.
So motor not stuck, and power at the plug.
Somewhat baffled.?

Still possible the motor was "stuck" but now free. Try reconnecting the plug into the motor and see if it now works correctly.

poor connection somewhere, underload it fails. the speed controller is near the motor in the plastic tunnel going towards the dash. worth checking the connections to that.
It might well now work as mentioned, but could stop again...

Didn't work. And the plug is stuck again. b****r.
You measure 12 volts at the plug, but that's with no load, so doesn't prove much, (the controller is electronic, so could be leakage). The motor seems to be OK, so the motor fuse, (16), or speed controller is suspect, I think. Fuse first, with meter on Ohms.
Mac.

Which one is the motor fuse? There seems to be some confusion ie the manual I have numbers it the wrong way around.
