If you purchase a petrol A2 and cover 250 miles each week you will need to fill up the tank probably before the week is over, so forget about every 14 days.

It means I'm very unlikely to buy a Petrol A2, because of this very reason. I get 500 miles out of low 40l fillups in my Punto and any new car has to have a good enough range. My old Astra managed 350 miles usually (400 at a push), but it's very rare for me to fill up before 450 now. Why does the A2 have such a small fuel tank?

Gav,

The A2 has a small fuel tank to cut down on weight. Current new models (late 2002) can hold an extra 2 gallons. This is a worthwhile improvement.

Tank capacity on new A2's is now 42litres or 9.3gallons. This means if you average 40mpg in an A2, you will need to fill up after 370 miles (ish)

Rob,

I can hardly knock straight forward mathematics, but in the real world once the fuel gauge got down to the lower segments that’s when I filled up again, simply because I need not wish to break down on the motorway. Adopting this safe policy I only got 230/240 miles before re-fuelling.

On motorways, I can regularly get 300+ miles from my petrol. Comes down to 250-275 with mainly urban driving on a full tank.

Totally agree JD, I was just stating the theoretical range at a given mpg to give Gavin more of an impression of whats in store with an A2.

I also agree that it's always wise to top up the car well before it gets too low, both from the running out of fuel aspect and the slurping the dregs off the bottom of the tank aspect.

And if get your petrol from Jet, you can see what their latest special offer is!. A hairbrush set for £2!. A multitool for £2. Ace.....

Just the one (I always have a grade 1 one my hair anyway-the set was for the misses) and a multitool (a fancy swiss army knife tool thingy with pliers etc). Plus with Jet points I've already had a cheque for £25 and I'm on my way to another...Oh the excitement.

I only really use Jet because my local Tesco doesn't sell petrol (although they are trying to get planning permission for one, and the locals are putting up daft objections like 24 hour noise, too much light, petrol smell, explosions etc etc)
