Has anyone fitted a Parrot?

Mki9200

I have a concert single cd player in my 54 reg tdi 90 sport and i fitted the PARROT MKI9200 which went straight in, no extra wiring loom needed. If you go onto the parrot website it will tell you, just type in your car make and model. :)

Hi Sojah,

Good information, thanks! I tried to power the parrot yesterday without joy. connected all looms and harnesses, checked all the fuses and connections but I could not get the unit to power up. I will investigate as its a second hand unit out of my friends Golf but when I took it out it was working.... I'm puzzled, but anyway I will crack it and thanks again for the tip.

Parrot

Hi Lamby, when i had mine fitted it was wired straight to the ignition switch. I know you may have done this but wire the parrot from outside the unit first and i know there are two L + R plugs that may need connecting onto there opposite sides to get it to work. I also remember the tech guy say that some wiring looms dont have the live feed connector that goes to the stereo to activate the parrot, so try having a look at the connectors to see if all of them actually connect to something.
Oh, and some phones dont work with the parrot:- samsung being one of them.

I've fitted a parrott 3100 to my wife's car today (which has the concert CD player) but can't get it to work, there's no power to the Parrott.

I think this is because there's no ignition supply in the two standard ISO connectors, I'm guessing it's one of the wires in the third plug (top one in the pic) which has no equivalent in the Parrott wiring loom.

Does anyone know which wire is the one I need to tap into to get the ignition power supply? I'd rather do this than trace back to the ignition.

Thanks

Hi chandd,

If you whip out the climate panel control unit, you'll see a load of connectors on the back of it, including one with just 2 thick wires in it. These carry a switched feed.

I'd only splice in (using soldered connections) after you've confirmed the feed with a meter - better safe than sorry.

As to earthing the system, I'm not familiar with the particular models' wiring loom, so you need to check with Parrott ideally. I need to fit the 3000 evo kit still so if you get around to it before me, if you could post how you did it I would be grateful! Cheers Lamby.

Hi,
I am currently installing a Parrot kit & mine doesn't have the switched live in the ISO connector.... I agree that the climate unit has a switched live on it, however, the voltage does not fully drop to 0V & therefore if using this there will be a slight drain on your battery.....
The hunt continues...

Hi Bigantg,

Interesting, so it's not a good idea to plumb into the Climate? Maybe skipton can offer some help... where does everyone else plumb there 12v switched feed from.... someone knows, it's just a case of finding them and getting the information out of them. hahaha. What about tapping into the climate feed, what sort of usage are we talking from a parrot kit and is it likely to drain the battery fast?

Lamby,
Stuggled finding a switched live that give pure 0V so ended using the live on the climate unit.... Parrot kit works spot on, will monitor the battery on the car to see if it drains. Shouldn't really, when the ignition was off my meter (& I tried 2 of them which are both very accurate) read 0.03V.

Watch this space!

Antony

Hi Antony,

When you ran the live off the Climate Control 12v feed did you also look for a negative/earth off the Climate Control also or is there already the connections for this on the parrot wire harness when means I only need to worry about finding the live off the Climate Control 12v feed? Thanks Lamby.

Skipton should be able to advise - he has fitted 2 units for me. I recall that some 'additional' tweaking was required to take the feed off the concert radio using a small spade connector (not supplied) - majority of the plugs/connector units that come with the Parrot are not used.

Mine works a treat with the radio on or off (as long as the ignition is on)
