Chat Hellppppp engine light on within 3 days of purchase!!!!!!!

no im not breaking that hard with a baby in the car

do you think its linked to the engine light?
im going to email you now

Safety is vital and it is best to investigate the errors on the car.

It is unlikely to be linked to the engine light, but having said that there is an outside possibility that the lights are connected, but only if the problem is (strangely enough) the brake light switch failing.

That makes the dashboard errors light up, the EML (Engine) light, the ABS light and others.

But that is unlikely to be the cause because you mention bad vibration under braking, so it is likely to be a brake problem. But best to check fully rather than "guess" so we will see what happens tomorrow.

Thanks for the offer Steve but I'm going to take it back to the shop early morning and get it sorted of my money back
This is too much stress for the amount I paid and I've only had it 3 days lol

Thank you for your generosity and I will let you know what happens tomorrow

Yes, please do let me know if I can help.

If they start to mess you around at all I can explain to them in technical terms why they should not !!!

If they "fix" it I can still do a scan for you t make sure that it is all ok.

No car you buy will be perfect, it would be rare to be problem free and the older the more likely faults will happen until that point is reached where so much is replaced. But if you can bear with it the A2 is a great car and will hold or even gain value if you look after it. You should really enjoy driving it and the higher seating position gives you a much better road view to help your safety on the road.

It's now the responsibility of the motor dealer to prove that the fault was NOT there when they sold you the car, so providing you have told them (within 6 months) which you have.....and made it clear to them that under the sale of Goods Act, the vehicle is not of merchantable quality nor fit for purpose, they are legally obliged to refund your money or fix it to your satisfaction. The old onus on you having to prove that there was a fault has gone away if it's within the first 6 months.

I am sure the dealer will know this and want to take care of you but if not the Citizens Advuce bureau offers free help and advice.

so i got the sensor fixed, the shop owner gave me car to use whilst he was fixing mine, he gave me a pile of crap and the engine light was on that aswell.....

so i got the car back yesterday and the engine light came back on with the same code?????
im very confussed now as he showed me my old sensor

also my oil red light keeps coming on and off when the oil is fine??

what can this be?

Hi Katie
It sounds like the shop where you bought the car from is far from reputable, at least as far as their knowledge of the A2 is concerned.
May I strongly recommend you take up Birchall's offer for him to undertake a proper diagnostic using his VAGCOM software and a visual inspection from someone who knows the A2 inside out, as without that, we're all playing a bit of a guessing game! Alternatively, if you're happy to drive it from Hayes to Milton Keynes, pay a visit to Tony at A2 Cars and he will definitely sort it out.

What I would say is that within this forum, we have pretty much seen and fixed everything there is to find and go wrong with the A2. You've come to the right place by registering here, so allow yourself to be helped by the community. We all love A2s and we all love to help our fellow A2 owners. You've made a great choice by buying an A2, you've made a great choice by joining the forum, now make the next right choice and get an A2 expert to check the car out.

The red oil light coming on and off could be a serious problem, it could be oil pressure.

I am more than happy to scan the car and do a visual check but I wouldn't let the dealer get away with this. He should be sorting it out for you.

I can come over early one evening this week if that will help?

was a massive help
i will get in contact with the dealer tomorrow and try and get my money back

if anyone is selling a car under the price of £2000 and you live in the area if you can let me know asap please

What was the diagnosis?

was alot of issues come quite major with the engine and the brakes.

and the low oil pressure light is a problem and the software diagnosed the sensor to be fine

so now just got a lot of hassle trying to get the money back

I scanned Katie's car and there were ABS faults which were worrying, but as worrying was the engine sounds, it was a deep knocking (not quite a "big end" knock and definoitely not tappets). It did not sound healthy at all and the noises were perhaps an indication of the low oil pressure that may have been the cause of the red oil warnings.

Add to this the concerns about the brakes and a huge list of (mostly minor) error codes (the most I have seen on a scan) and my recommendation to Katie was to take it back to the dealer.
This is not a reliable and safe car, especially for a young family and baby.

I have offered to try and locate a reasonable replacement A2, so if anyone spots a reasonable tdi A2 for just under £2,000 please let us know via PM (to observe the Marketplace rules).

I will keep an eye out on Autotrader and eBay (as usual), but if anyone spots something on any other sites please let us know, on the TDI wanted / spotted sections.

Cheers
Steve B
