Just been looking at quotes for a TDI90 local to me thats up for sale and shocked at quotes im getting. £700+ with 9+yrs NCD no claims in last 5+ years , 1000mile limit 500 XS, SDP only, on driveway overnight, transferring from my exisiting for a year and joke quotes if I start with 0 NCD, as adding a car with new policy. For comparison, just entered 250 into the comparison sites which is a TDI75 and due for renewal soon, my quote is more that double what I paid last year. my existing insurers renewal is just not viable ... Is everyone experiencing huge jumps in premiums ? I thought it was only the range rovers .... is this all cost of living, inflation, post pandemic ? Are there classic limited mileage policies available for 2005 A2s now or do they have to be 20+ ?

We have a 15% increase on a Merc to £195 pa that I’m about to challenge.
Edit £170 😊 2% increase on last year.

Just to add the TDI90 the insured market value being quoted is £430. new quote £700+ TDI75 value £370 renewal quote £585. Not sure those market values reflect market prices though.

Living in middle of nowhere 14 years NCD with clean driving record. I paid 223 last year for 2003 75 tdi my renewal was 290 so quite a jump but when I cancelled renewal and did new search got offer for 201 with the same insurer.

Im in Watford Herts so maybe thats the reason!? Maybe insurers are seeing more diesels being bumped to be written off because of ULEZ ? I cant see the logic with insurance , just been talking to LV and the two 1.6 FSIs i have , one 2004 04 , and the other 2003 53 , the 2003 is £115 MORE to insure than the 2004 despite being valued less using same details. The agent talking to me cannot explain why... essentially exactly same car registered 6 months apart. Only difference is 03 is green , and 04 gold. something else my A2 Diesel insurance quotes seem to be £300 + more than the petrols

I reckon that claims on EVs are rocketing, due to anything battery related, likely to be written off, because repairs cannot be certified to manufacturers spec, CE/TUV etc. It's non PC to load EV's insurance, so it's spread across the customer base. Just my opinion, off course.
Mac.

I can see a marked difference in quotes just by speaking with one insurer this morning between my A2 Petrol and Diesel quote changes with all the other factors being like for like. premium increases arent aligned % wise. if its EVs then their premiums should also reflect the risk, whilst some of the load should be spread, if this is happening to ensure EVs have subsidised PC premiums then its just wrong imo. I would love to see the stats for yes EVs and also non compliant ULEZ vehicles being written off . Are insurers just writing off, as well because its easier ? Im really wondering whether theres been an upturn in CAT Ns for anything diesel and old , and what quotes would be if I lived somewhere maybe less riskier away from any emission restrictions ? maybe thats me being too cynical but i wouldnt wanna write off any A2 and be paid out. Seems costs are really now out of control im looking at Insurance 70 - 100+ % increases soon , for my A2s which I cant justify given they arent daily drivers.

Yes your location after age (or better say experience how long you drive) is the number one factor for high premiums. Try fill in some diferent less populated address with rest of the details same as before , your premium will drop significantly.

I recently purchased an A2 TDi from fellow member and I was getting a quote for £535 to add as a multicar option to my existing Seat Alhambra policy. How can a Audi A2 be the same price as a 7 seater??? Safe to say I told them no chance and ended up insuring with LV as multicar on my wife's policy, cost me £188 until November though. I have 25+ years no claims, no accidents or convictions, go figure!

I wish I was that young , im no teenager :p, Ive been driving 30+ years now. Im scared to even think what premium will be quoted for my daughter if she passes her driving test and wants to drive at 17, only a few months away now.. if my experience is mirrored across those who cant afford or have some claims , is it any wonder there are uninsured drivers . The mileage across all my cars is really no more that 6000 miles , most of the time they are sitting on the driveway. I always expect costs to rise... even with another years NCD clocking up. Just have to weigh up whether keeping the A2s is a necessity worth paying for or now luxury. It does look like where I live is a factor. using an address in Grays near lakeside lops off upto £150 , still high . Cant really use that address so have to look for a better premium of maybe a specialist classic policy if such a thing exists..

Wonder what your LV renewal will be , Im with LV and quotes are north of your £535 for the 75. £188 seems very good price

try a somerset address my insurance was half it is now in leicestershire , my a2 renewal is 302 with hastings direct

What makes it worse for people who are buying a 2nd hand car, is that most people need to insure same day, resulting in higher prices. It does make a difference in price if you are renewing a month or so before you decide. I've seen figures change in front of my eyes after a refresh...kinda like the post office scandal at the moment...a bloody disgrace!

Mr Silver was £204 as a brand new policy with no NCB as that's been used on my other car.
This year's renewal £328, confused got me to £255 with a years NCB discount but setting my ncb at 0 saved me money came in at £237. Still more than last year but bonkers the discount system insurance uses is ridiculous! Often cheaper to park on the road and don't ever even think about parking in your garage as you will simply burn money!!

When I added mine onto my A6 insurance as an addition vehicle in November it only cost the equivalent of £180 for the year (was extra £120 for 8 months) that was with Admiral and with my wife and 2 daughters as named drivers too.

Also heard similar. The nightmare EV continues as the chances of them being repaired like an ICE vehicle is much lower and longer so a hire car is required for much much longer increasing the repair cost further.

just searched for a random Somerset postcode.. used TA1 2PR Wow - Could save over £431 on Watford quote if I moved to Taunton Somerset . same details , current insurer, thats over 56% saving...

I had a 2 car and house insurance multiple deal with Admiral. The renewal quote was over £500 more for next year. Went up from £1200 to £1700 pounds to or the 3. I phoned them directly and they offered them and they offered to knock £120 off the cost. Suffice to say I'm no longer with them.
I have another single policy for £350, with more coverage now.
