Laser cut headlight switch, climate refurb

Having not long seen an episode of wheeler dealers, I contacted a small business seen on the show.
They specialise in refurbishment of obsolete porsche and maserati dash buttons and switches. These too suffer from soft touch rubbery paint that peels off.
Maybe someone has done this before but the process is strip prime paint black and then a computer controlled laser etches the logos onto the buttons. The finish is obscenely good.

I spoke to the chap and he said if we send him a headlight switch he'll see how long it would take to do and give a quote.

Anyone got absolutely rotten spare headlight switch they'd like to give away? Maybe the price is not too bad, and this turns into the perfect answer for refurbishment??

Yes Ed I saw this episode also and wondered if they could help us.

All soft touch switches wear, so the list includes headlight switch, fuel switch, alarm switch, radio buttons, climate buttons, window switches, door lock, ASR switch and even the cupholder fascia. Biggest issue would probably be getting the correct font then how much disassembly they would want to treat the parts.

This could also be a way to use LHD alarm and fuel buttons by getting the printed the right way up.

Well done Edd,

This is a great development. Having had 2 items refurbished with the stencils I can say that I wound prefer this option if the costs aren’t outrageous.

Hi guys thanks for the comments above.

So things have escalated already, good news. @Cenick has donated a headlight switch.
This will now be sent for a trial run with the company. Myself and Steve will report back. If its decent then we can get into talks about other items for sure.

The price on the telly is high, however you have to bear in mind the end car and wealth associated with it, also the cost of the parts from the main dealers was insanely high. So I have no doubt this helped the price strategy, I know i would have done the same!

Nothing to loose here now so let's see what happens and see what price comes back. The company seem open to discussions so this may be interesting. Can but try.

Also worth mentioning to them that the headlight switch comes in two type. One with front and rear fogs and the other only rear fog light so there is no symbol for the non front fog lights

Has any one given any thought to the impending horror of unavailable water pipes?

HI, update, just called the chap (still hasnt given his name) to make sure he got the headlight and could do something with his magic laser. He said ''yes its looking to be finished in ten days or so''!

So this is a freebie and will be sent to @Cenick , we will be told a cost then should it be something anyone wants doing adn the results ar eany good. No one knows how much it will cost but its free!

This switch could end being the only A2 headlight switch to be lasered restored Mr Odey so should be worth £500 instantly :)

He’s gone dead on me, last response was on the 22nd May and has not responded to messages since then, so, I could be down a switch…

Just reread your comments, sorry Ed should pay more attention and less work

Some people do win the lottery you know. However, holding the breath is probably best avoided.

A near neighbour who won £250000 about ten years ago. Came home to find him leaping about in the street with one of those big cheques.
A very lovely old chap and a heart warming tale.
