Location of brake light switch

I've seen the air-duct references and registered as a possible requirement for the switch - but the big piece of plastic trim currently in the way of both is the more pressing issue! At least it is working again, so maybe something for the weekend if the weather tidies up.

I agree regarding the cover, it is a pain but I managed it eventually, I think it's the fact that because you have not done it before and this applies to most of us, you tend to be very cautious in your approach incase you break something, but sometimes you have to be a bit brutal when pulling something apart, the most important thing I've found is absolutely make sure that you have found every nut, bolt and screw that is holding something in place, and then check again.
Unlike Timmus and A2Steve who does this on a regular basis it's all a learning curve to us mere mortals.
You WILL manage it if indeed it needs to be changed.
If I can do it, anyone can if you think and take your time.
Oh just to add, a head type torch is a great thing to have, it's pretty dark up there. ?

The way the upper front edge spring clips are fitted into the dash is more of the problem They fit into horizontal slots, so if you pull straight down you are in effect bending them in the slots. In practice what is needed is the lower panel to be pulled TOWARDS the drivers seat to disengage the clips easier and then pulled down.

Unfortunately I exacerbated something akin to RSI in my ring finger while trying to apply full power rearwards through the headlight switch hole with three fingers which is still smarting a lot today. I'm going to have to try to find a tool like a pry bar to persuade the clips to release backwards percussively - I would love to say it was an old rowing injury, but as I was mostly the cox it doesn't wash!

Has anyone mentioned that you have to remove the airduct tube as well to gain access to the switch, it's the only way I could get to the switch.
I agree, to struggle around it would be silly as its only a single plastic pop fastener!
Suprised no one has mentioned unhooking the bonnet pull at the base of the under steering wheel trim thou or maybe thats too obvious?
