OEM Audi Tyre Specification

Back when the A2 was first produced I do not think that tyres were marked as OEM. This was due to certain countries favouring local manufacturers and a lack of guaranteed supplies from any single tyre manufacturer. More recently car manufacturers have had ( in the case of Audi ) AO as part of the tyre branding. It is quite possible that several car manufacturers will specify a tyre as OEM and thus have their markings on them.

My A1 has Vredestein Ultrac AO tyres fitted.
I agree. Especially as the A2 never turned a profit, the individual Audi Agents for each country would have looked for the best deal they could. That wouldn't have necessarily meant a good tyre, just a cheap one. I was talking about any knowledge people may have of them being developed in conjunction with a manufacturer before they went on the market. I guess this is lost in the mists of time, so I'll go with what I think maybe best from peoples experiences here. This is an interesting discussion though! I hope I don't drive faster than that guy in the video, even in my Robin!

I'm just back from test driving my two new front Kumhos. Ride is smoother and steering far more responsive.

If members don't want to stretch to premium tyres Kumhos on an A2 will not disappoint.

I've just looked at these, and they look great. £80 per tyre intead of £115. Thats 1 tyre free for a set of 4 if my man-maths is good.

If you're contemplating the Kumho's this looks like a good option from Blackcircles with local fitting available at £1 per tyre and a 15% discount currently available through ebay making them a potential bargain at around £65 each all in 👍

Blackcicles is where I bought my pair of Kumos.
I have a local garage that I use for my MOTs, air conditioning, tracking etc. They also fit for Blackcicles 👍
The eBay deal is especially good.

Thats superb. I will do this- book it in for alloy refurb, then looks like I'll take the refurbed alloys to by local fitter and get them done there! Bargain!

Check with the wheel refurb place first, they usually fit tyres too, at least mine did ...

Also check (by spinning them on a wheel balancer) that the wheels are true and not flat spotted on the insides before spending a lot of money having them refurbished and new tyres fitted and then when you do, have the tyres dynamically balanced to ensure perfect vibration free balance 👍

The refurb place will probably charge £10 extra to remove the old tyres and refit (old or new) ones once refurbed, where as the Blackcircles offer is just £1 on top each when buying the tyres.

I personally would take the wheels away and let them fully cure for a couple of days before having the tyres fitted anyway but that's just me.

I suppose the one advantage of having the refurb place fit them is as they have just painted/powder coated them they 'might' take more care not to mark them when fitting them but probably aren't quite as competent as a 'good' tyre fitter if you can get one 🙄👍

A good refurb of a wheel will see powder coat being applied and baked on. That and the tyre being fitted by machine will see a perfect finished result for your money, well that's my experience with the company I use anyway. They were quite happy to have Blackcircles deliver new tyres to them and fit them to the refurbed wheels.

For tyres I use all-season tyres and currently favour the Michelin Cross Climate 2, not because of opinions I've read, which was all we had for generations (if you except the obvious bias of manufacturers advertising), but because I have researched the choice through the Tyre Reviews website articles of back to back comparative tyre testing in controlled conditions.
I suggest anyone with an interest visits the site and does some reading / viewing to see where the manufacturers are these days.

I am making a call tomorrow to the tyre fitters. The trouble is, they only charge £4 for fitting, whereas the refurb place is £40 for the set. Plus £20 for keeping the car for upto 48 hours for curing time. The tyre-fitter may not want a car on stands in their shop for 48 hours. The alternative, of course, is that I have car on my own driveway on stands while I move the wheels around. Just weighing up the saving of £60 as against the hassle. The Ebay discount covers 60% of that too. Hmmmm. The code ends on Tuesday, so I need to decide tomorrow!

I'm sure I could make you up a lone set if you needed them as I've more than a few sets should I say 😁👍

I'm sure if you do buy them and go for the fitting option, that the place you choose to fit them will take the old tyres off for you before having them refurbed and then refit the new ones later.

Wheel refurb places also love having just the bare wheels as it's obviously much easier for them.

Also be sure to remove the old valves and wheel weights (and their sticky pads) as sometimes when they are chemically stripped they can leave a bit of the old primer and paint behind which unless they then spend the time removing will leave a poor finish.

All obviously depends on how good and thorough the refurbers are that you use but unfortunately all aren't 👍

I have ordered 4x Kumho tyres from Blackcircle. They are £1 cheaper on their website without fitting than Ebays current offer with them using the code for 15% off. However, I am not using the £1 per wheel tyre fitment, as I am taking them to the alloy wheel refurbishment company where my wheels will be stripped and powder-coated. They will be charging me £10 per wheel for tyre fitment. So overall, a more expensive option. Total price for wheels to be refurbed is £260 all in. This comprises of £200 for the wheels to be stripped and coated, £40 tyre fitment, and £20 to have my car parked there for 48 hours- I guess this covers insurance and stops people leaving cars there indefinately. Total price of 4 new tyres and refurbed wheels: £516.86. I will then slowly be looking to replace the centrecaps with new ones, or refurbing my ones. I need to stop the outgoings for a while!

Hi 3wheeler ... I've had no issues with Kumho Ecsta 16" 185/50, have used them for around twelve plus years ... fronts last me 20K miles and the backs 40k, so fronts every two years and backs every four years ... I always use Black Circle and usually cost around the £65 mark including balance and fitting.

So, of course, I am now tracking down some wheel centres. I have found a site claiming that their centres are genuine, and they have the following parts numbers in stock:
8Z0601165FZ17, 8Z0601165EZ17, 8Z0601165BZ17 ranging from £17.62 each to £27.37 each. Has anyone got any experience of what the difference is between these parts?
