Private Reg on the A2

W8ng J

I recently bought the above Private plate off the DVLA site. It's my surname (wong) and initial.
I'd been thinking about it for a while but it was £1600 then a couple of weeks ago, I checked again and all W reg's had 75% off so I picked it up for £399!!

I've since bought 3 more for members of family!

SU51 SKA tampered to read SUSI'S KA on a bright red StreetKa.

Funnily enough I saw that plate on a white smart cabrio a couple of years ago. I wondered then why it wasn't on a KA.

So Chris, did you fall for it? I'm doing my level best to dismiss the idea - but when I see it on an A2 it's very tempting in an Amazon-one-click-impulse-purchase kind of way.

Alternatively, I could buy some decent powertools...

I,ve a very personal plate on my A2 its D9 JKD the D is my inital the 9 is my daughters birth date the JKD, J is my wifes inital,K my daughters intial and our surname Drake.
I,ve owned it for 2 and a half years (was on my Mazda before).
Cost £500 eek but worth every penny as its for my whole family.

In Sweden a Private plate is personal and owned by a person for 10 years for a cost of ~600€ (6000SEK) no matter what vehicle you use it on. Everything except for the productions costs of 50€ goes to a fund for research and development of traffic safety.

I have RICHIE as private plates and the plates have been on all the Audis :)

In the UK we never own the registation number just the use of it it remains the DVLA,S.

So the reg.nr always goes with the vehicle no mather who owns it? Is it possible to remove the nr from one vehicle if you want to use it on another vehicle or is it lost forever?

sort of. It's a bit like here, the plate is normally attached to the car. If you want something else, you pay for it and it's complex.
The Germans have the "your plate" and it's registered to where you live. My A2 was registered to me in Germany with HP-ST 158 (long story I'm not going to explain here) but HP is the place we lived.

Reminds me, I saw an A2 here in Lahti on Friday. TOW was the start of the plate. :D

If I wanted, I might be able to get "EI 2" but it would be €1000 + re-registration charges.

We have the use of it for as long as we want if you need to change car then you pay £25 to put it on retention for upto a year and keep doing that until you put it back on your car.

Hi,

On the subject of reg numbers, one thing to remember is that if you have a really good number then watch out !!!!!

On your daily drive to and from work, if you are a bit naughty or get involved in any "road rage" minor or otherwise, the other "guy" will be able to remember you that much easier and so the next time you both meet don't be surprised if there is a reaction. With an "Ordinary" number the chances of someone remembering your car are more remote.

So the tip is, if you drive a bit agressive and are likely to upset people, then don't get a special reg number. Some people have a long memory and the next time you get back to your car in the car park and it has been "keyed" then it could be thanks to your "special number".

But I suppose that we all drive nice and friendly and NEVER upset anyone and so it doesn;t matter.

Just for info, I bought A2 EFU (Eff You?) from the DVLA for £200, perhaps that upsets people too??

I also have BOOSTED (actually BC05TED) which I have on retention and don't need any more (don't have an 05 or newer car to put it on). If anyone is interested it is £650 all in!!!!

We've just bought P12 MOO, with a squared off P ;)

£250 from dvla

The P and the 1 look a bit like an A, close enough without making it obviously illegal any way!

And the MOO bit is because my girlfriend collects anything cow related.

The A2 ones are thin on the ground now, another similarity to A2 is F12 but the F prefixes start at £499.

watch out ------ The Police are now issuing £60 fixed penalties for reg plates whoch do not conform with regulations............such as a squared off 'P';)

I have AN53LA Y on my A2 - a little bit of tinkering (it's only the space i have put between the A and Y) and it looks like my good lady's name - ANGELA ??

I have on my Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet - A11EX U - again a little tinkering (move the space to between the X and U - and it gives you my name - ALEX, this plate has been on 22 cars in the last 16 years i have owned it, yes i have spent a fortune in transfer fees, so much i don't even want to think about it.

Just pondering at the moment over buying N600 ABA to go with our other 2 ??? Its £245 on DVLA :):):)
ABA = Andy & Bev Atkinson.

Just stumbled on http://singlesingle.co.uk/a.htm

A 2 was allocated to David Waterlow whose family business was famous for printing postage stamps and banknotes. David’s father donated Waterlow Park in Highgate to the Borough for use of those who didn’t have a garden. Having retired from the family business he became a London County Councillor and when the Motor Car Act came into power it’s almost certain that the councillors shared the spoils amongst themselves. In 1922 David became chairman of Waterlow & Sons and died two years later. Waterlow & Sons ultimately became part of Thomas de la Rue and was finally dissolved in 2009

The owner of A 2 bought the Bentley in June 1997 and placed the plate on it in January 1999. The Bentley, with plate still assigned, is now on SORN.
