Rear ARB now fitted to an A2

Just ordered one of these and I am looking forward to transforming Gertie. Will post pics along the way.

Cheers

Mark

I have fitted a rear ARB on my A2. It was obtained from Awesome and they list it for Mk5 Polo and Fabia. It is made by Whitelines costs £117 (BARGAIN) and its adjustable, soft/medium/hard. I am running it on the soft setting and even on that it makes a big difference. I never really felt my A2 had any problems getting round corners but last year on a visit to the ring the front tires were getting really hot and slippy. This year it was more balanced. It now feels like the front end is being towed round the corners. There is less wheel spin driving out of the slower corners and a little less body roll.

You will see I have re-shaped the supplied U-bolts. They probably would have done the job with no problems but I wanted maximum clearance around the axle as the car is slightly lowered.

Fitting the ARB was straight forward but me being fussy about the U-bolts the job took me around 2hrs.

Check out the pictures below

Boy, you're going to be a busy Chappie, Mark! Rear ARB's .... Votex Body kits, Votex rear spoiler ... have I missed anything ??? LOL!

Rear ARB all fitted. I will upload my pics later

Hi marky999

Thanks for the piccies!
I also ordered one last night from the bay.
Is the fittment straight and easy, without any modification ?

How do you feel this new setup ?

Thanks for the feedback :)

your MoT? or the UK one? Here, I don't think there's an issue, but I'm sure there would be one in Germany. Read your own regulations and find out....

Bret

My question about MOT was for the English one , just to have an idea.
I don't know for the french one... I'll give a search

The german TÜV is known to be very binding... Unlimited speed autobahns has a price ...

the English one won't care, of that I am sure. Here they aren't interested - only in the height of the vehicle (i.e springs).

Bret

Hiya mate, straightforward enough. Took me about 35 mins on the ramp at work. Beware of the u clamps when mounting them as they are very close to the diesel tank mate. I left about an inch either side and then measured to make sure they were both equal.

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark,
how does this rear ARB affect the handling ?
Does it make a big difference in body roll ?
Thanks :)

Does it make the inner rear wheel lift on hard bends ?
(Remember MK2 GTI Golf, Clio Williams etc. :) )

No, it is nothing that exciting, i don't know if i don't drive quick enough or its because i have a tdi but i have noticed hardly any difference at all, the car still understeers in the wet and has plenty of grip in the dry

Tested and ... APPROUVED

I must confess that I was doubtful about the rear arb effect. I thought it had much to do with the placebo effect.

I just installed mine this afternoon, after coming home. I set it to medium. finished whith a lamp

On the first 20 meters... no change... on the first slow turn... not much better... well ... it should be better, I thought. let's try higher speed turns

It's on the first roundabout exit at high speed (without slowing down) I was very surprised by the flat turn and oversteering (compared to a normal A2). :D.
She felt just like a karting... amazing.

Second roundabout : confirmed the first one... a karting!! flat turning. far better than a stock a2
She turned so well so much that I had to turn the wheel in the opposite direction to avoid rising on the pavement !!!

After that I took a high way round entry at about 70km/h without feeling in danger anyway. The ESP came on. It the first time that I went so far in a loop and triggered the ESP.

After that i tested some 90° streering road turns at high speed: she acts just like a compass. she turns just when you decide to.
You can attack turns at higher speeds.

No more understeer. The handling is far better. I am very impressed.

Now the only thing I can add is: What else Georges ? : ooooh Sport seats ? .:p
... no no !! too expensive... no more mod anymore... I must stop it!! nothing else. It's all good.

PS : I have koni fsd's and 195/55/15 tyres on a remapped TDI
